Kritag is a short, frail looking man in his mid-fifties, he has a thick full beard and black hair around his head, but is bald on the top of his head. Despite looking sickly, he is very over weight from eating the rich foods he has his cooks prepare for him daily. Kritag loves his food almost as much as he loves the strong wines that are produced from his region of Armath.
Kritag used to be a very wealthy businessman in the city of Armath, he imported fabrics and other materials to have clothes made for the elite members of society. When he was in his mid-thirties Emperor Luciat commissioned him to have a set of clothes made for him. Luciat was so impressed with Kritag skill in both negotiating a fair price for the clothes as well as the tailoring itself, that he made Kritag his official tailor. Five years later Luciat's finance minister died of old age, so he asked Kritag if he would like the job, which Kritag accepted.
Under Kritags control the finances of Armath grew, he was able to streamline a budget for Armath, then made sure that Luciat stayed with it. Kritag ran Luciat's government like it was a business and he made it profitable. After his second year as minister Armath began showing profits from its ventures, Kritag was actually making Armath earn money.
When Marlenius killed Luciat in the arena, Kritag felt that he would soon be removed from his position as minister, but Marlenius told him that he liked the way he managed the governments money so he was going to keep him in that position. It was Kritag that was able to come up with the financial support for many of Marlenius' public work projects. Marlenius even had a large garden park in the city of Armath named in his honor.
Just seven years ago Marlenius gave Kritag a promotion and made him governor of the Vortasse region of Armath. At the time Kritag did not know it but the previous governor had been stealing money from tax collections and keeping it for himself. When he got caught, Marlenius had him executed and all of his property seized to be sold off to recover some of the stolen money.
It took Kritag just three years to turn the Vortasse region around and making it able to support itself. The citizens of the region like Kritag a lot, he treats all of them with respect, and he often asks his subjects what they think could be done to improve things. He has made his region of Armath so financially efficient that he was able to reduce taxes yet still cover the expenses and still have a profit.
Kritag likes his position as governor but he would like to go back to being the finance minister, but he suspects that Marlenius fears him becoming too popular with the people and therefore posing a threat to his rule. But is also fairly well known that Kritag has no ambition to rule the nation.
