Governor Durent is the longest serving governor in Armath, he served Luthian, then his son Luciat, and now Marlenius. Durent never liked the way Luthian or Luciat ran the nation, their iron fist method of ruler ship led to a lot of unease amongst the citizens. He likes the way Marlenius rules, having happy, content citizens means peaceful times for the nation.
Durent controls the region of Armath that has the nations largest sea port, it is also a region of rugged mountains, which produce some of the worlds best coffee beans. Durent goes to great lengths to make sure that this crop is protected, for it accounts for a large portion of Armaths revenue. He also takes great measures to keep the fishermen happy as well, for this region has several large fishing fleets.
Openly Durent is well liked by his citizens, but those that have been caught speaking out against either him or Marlenius are quickly imprisoned and often tortured. Durent thinks that Marlenius is leading the nation forward in the best way, so therefore anybody speaking out is a trouble maker. Durent has a special ceremony every three months, all those that have been arrested for speaking sedition towards the nation are brought to a public plaza where they are allowed to plead their case to him. Those that convince him that they are harmless are publicly flogged and set free. Those that do not convince him are publicly executed.
Durent is in his late sixties, but is still in fairly good shape, he regularly exercises with his guards. He always keeps his long silver hair in one long braid, and is almost always seen wearing a great deal of jewelry. It is suspected that he is loosing his hearing, but so far that hasn't presented any problems for him.
