RUNE QUEST
THE WORLD OF ALISTARR

Alistarr as a world is nearly 24,000 miles around its equator, with only
the Northern Hemisphere being explored and known to be inhabited.

The World has seven primary landmasses, which are:

Alistarr has 3 moons

There are a vast variety of occupations on Alistarr, but there are seven principal Castes.

Each major city on Alistarr has a Council of Castes that acts as
judge for any complaints that need a court hearing to settle. In
the city of Armath is the High Council of Castes, and they are the
supreme body for decisions that concern the castes. They can
overrule lower council decisions.

The calendar of Alistarr is based off of the Armath calendar. Each
week has seven days and there are five weeks to every month. There
are four seasons, each of which is three months in length. So the
Alistarr year has twelve months, made up of sixty weeks, for four
hundred and twenty days in the year,

Magic is very common on Alistarr, the most basic form of magic is called
Spirit Magic and can do things like make a fire or mend clothes. It can
also be used for combat and healing. The more powerful magics are Sorcerery,
Elemental Sorcerery and Druidic Magic.
Sorcerery is a powerful magic, but is slow to cast and requires great amounts
of personal power, and it requires years of study. Elemental sorcerery is also
very powerful, but deals solely with Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Light & Dark. It
also requires great amounts of personal power and many years of intense study.
Druidic magic is both a blessing and a curse to those that can perform it. For
those that can perform it are at the beck and call of the gods. A Druid could
be sent to a village to bless it with good crops because a god chose to favor
the village. Or the Druid could be sent to destroy the village and kill all that
reside there because they have angered a god. It also takes years of study, but
there are no schools for it, it is handed down from master to student.

LEY LINES
Alistarr is criscrossed with Ley Lines, most of the major cities of the world are built
on a crossing point of multiple lines. The teleportation matricies that are maintained by
the Sorcerery Guild use the Ley Lines to teleport people and items from one place to another.
Sorcerers are able to use the power flowing from these lines to greatly improve the power of
their spells.
There are also Dark Lines, that channel a negative energy back and forth across the planet
as well. Where Ley Lines intersect with Dark Lines are called Chaos Points, and sorcerers
that try and cast their spells near these places sometimes find it very difficult. Sometimes
casting near a Chaos Point will result in the spell simply failing, as the sorcerers power is
sucked into the Chaos point. Other times the spell may have a different outcome than was
intended, and there are times where the spell works properly but it many times more powerful
than was intended.
Major Chaos points are often the site of a large temple dedicated to some deity, mostly those
of a Chaotic nature.
