Cubs gave up on him because of the freakish groing injury that took place in April 2005. To my dismay they gave him not a sniff of a contract - knowing that lifetime .320 hitters don't grow on trees!!!
Now, Nomar didn't want to play OF - he's never played there - but surely, they could have used him as a SUPER sub - getting time for him at 3rd, SS and 1B (now that Lee's injury has kept him out for 2 months) But that wasn't doable.
