I was genuinely surprised by the signing of Alfonso Soriano...for $136 million for 8 years, if he stays the duration (doubtful.) It went contrary to the thoughts I had on what the Cubs would do...meaning they actually looked to bolster a team that draws 3,100,000 fans each year for the last 5 seasons (or very close to that.)
I like the idea....Soriano though is going to be pressured to repeat the 40-40-40 season in 2006. If he walks about the same as last season (60+ times) and get the 35-42 home runs you can expect in the Confines to go with 30 steals, I'll be impressed. Do that twice in a row (AND) win a NL championship, and I'll buy a season ticket...if I am a millioniare...
All and all though, they still need a pitching staff. Carlos can't pitch 300 innings, well maybe he could, but that would be a sure fire way to burn him out. So, I hope the big spending doesn't forget to add a starting pitcher to compete...
I'll try to write more about other topics later, just been too busy having fun!!! (Or at least spending money...which is fun.)
