Bruce D. Shephard, MD
I received my undergraduate degree in history from the University
of California at Berkeley where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa. I finished medical
school at the University of California in San Francisco and then
completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of
Miami in 1974. Following two years in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps, I moved to Tampa
to join an OBGYN group in which I practiced for 17 years.
During this time I researched and wrote a consumer health book, co-authored with
my wife, Carroll, a nurse and psychologist. Our
book, The Complete Guide to Women's Health, won the Mead Johnson
Patient Education Award in 1992. I have written other articles which have appeared in
McCall's, Brides, Woman's World, Mademoiselle, BabyTalk, and other magazines.
I am certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and am a Fellow of
the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
I began my own practice because I want to offer a more personal approach to my
patients' needs at a time when many health care services seem to be going in much the
opposite direction.
