In September of 2004 I was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder called Arnold Chiairi Malformation. There are several variants of Arnold Chiari Malformation. I have Aronld Chiari Type 1.
Arnorld Chiari Malformation is a rare birth defect thought to affect only 1 in every 1000 people. The use of MRI's today will probably cause the numbers to rise. ACM is rarely aquired and is often diagnosed after serious injury or blunt force trauma to the head using an MRI.
Some people might think that being diagnosed with a rare brain disorder or birth defect is the worst thing that could happen to them but for me that is not true. I have found that for each door that has shut because of my Chiari another is opening. I have had to make many changes in my life to accomadate the syptoms that Chiari presents and in many ways that has been good.
I hope that in looking through my pages you will get a better idea of what ACM is and learn how it can affect every aspect of our lives and the lives of our caretakers and family members.
