The Glottal Stop

In English, glottal stops occur in the Cockney pronunciation of bottle (bo'le) or the American pronunciation of Latin (La'en). In German, the sound in-between the E and the A in the word Beamte is also a glottal stop. In phonetic transcription, glottal stops are usually represented by an apostrophe (').
