WITWER-MOTT
    HOUSE

Built in 1884 by Captain Marcus Mott, this house has been in the
Witwer family for the last forty years. Neal Witwer, born in the
house in 1947, blames a ghost in the attic for destroying his first
marriage. It all started when a new tenant moved in. The man strongly
resembled the captain's son, who was rumored to have murdered his
father. For whatever reason, the boarder's arrival coincided with
the emergence of a ghost. Every night at 3:00 A.M., loud voices and
banging sounds came from the attic. Then, the ghost of a bearded
man started to appear to Witwer's wife and call out to her in the
middle of the night. For two weeks, regular seances were held to
try to placate what was assumed to be Mott's spirit. Instead, another
presence emerged, a female ghost who focused her attention on the
new boarder. Before long, neither the boarder nor Witwer's wife
could stand to live in the house. Neal Witwer's wife divorced him,
and his tenant moved away. Strangely, the ghosts moved on as well.
