On May 29, 1999, the town of
Pompton Lakes, NJ will honor legendary heavyweight champion Joe Louis with the
dedication of the Joe Louis Memorial Park. Pompton Lakes served as Louis’ training
site in the 1930’s and 1940’s. One champion showing support for the worthy cause is
WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis (34-1, 27 KO’s). Lewis recently filmed
a segment for the television program, Fantasy Island, and donated a portion of his
television proceeds to the Joe Louis Memorial Fund . . . For more information about
