Minority women constitute only about 26% of the female population (ages 15-44) in the USA, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.1
This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "since the number of current living Blacks (in the USA) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss for, without abortions, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35% larger than it is. Abortion has swept through Black Americans like a scythe, cutting down every 4th member."2
A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.3
"Several years ago, when 17,000 aborted babies were found in a dumpster outside a pathology lab. in Los Angeles, CA, some 12-15,000 were observed to be Black. Wake up, Black America, and relive Dr Martin Luther King's Dream! The way of abortion is the way back into bondage!"4
Erma Clardy Craven(deceased),
social worker and civil rights leader
"Since 1973, 78% of abortion centers have been located in Black and minority communities. Some upper middle class white females are not reproducing and they are trying to keep other groups from producing so they can remain in minority. It is my belief that in pruning the minority population, they're keeping themselves as the majority. The NOW and NARAL want only the preferred(white) the privilged(wealthy) and the perfect(No Down's Syndrome or handicapped). They are just playing God."
Dr Dolores Grier
Psychologist and President of American Black Women Against Abortion
"People think Planned Parenthood is a counseling based business. The bulk of their business comes from performing abortions. Parents are always shocked when they find out these people are going into the schools and teaching our children about birth control. They tie in "helping the poor" with the issue of abortion. They tell us the world is overpopulated. This form of brainwashing allows Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to continue having clients for their industry. If we stopped abortion, we would hurt somebody's pocketbook."
Beverly Clark
Former Houston City Councilwoman
"Being pro life means promoting life from conception to the end of our natural time here. It's keeping our families together. Pro life is helping whether the need is social, educational, or emotional. Pro life is multifaceted."
Juluette Barlett Pack
President Texas Black Americans Pro Life, INC
"Planned Parenthood started back in 1916 to limit the births of minority people, poor people, and people that were handicapped. If people would just study the documentation they would find that Planned Parenthood was rooted in racism and founded by a white supremacist. She believed that there were disgenic groups of people who needed to be exterminated. Most of Planned Parenthood's clinics are in minority communities. The language has changed, but the original intent is still the same-the limit the births of minority people, poor people, people that are handicapped"
Akua Furlow
Executive Director Life Education and Resource Network
"Human life is too frequently devalued in our society. For too long in the African American community the issue of abortion has been void from our agenda, as the number of abortions increase among us. The issue then becomes genocide. When you look at African Americans from a historical standpoint, you do not find abortion as an integral part of our culture. In our history, we have been major caregivers for our own children, and the children of those who held us in low esteem.
Today groups like NOW, NARL, Planned Parenthood, etc call this a "poor person's" issue (we have always been poor) and a "civil rights" issue because they need us to help them achieve their misguided goals. It may help them, but it is detrimental to African Americans."
Sharon Weston
Member Louisiana State Legislature
"We see today a common thread of degeneration in our society with the erosion of the absolutes set forth by these noble instruments-the Hippocratic Oath and the Constitution of the USA. The legalization of abortion has opened Pandora's box of abuse of fetal tissue in research, and has allowed genetic engineering to lurk as a monster at our doorsteps."
