An Interview with Carol Everett

Former abortion clinic owner

Q. Who developed the partial birth abortion technique? Q. What do doctors say about this abortion procedure?
A. Dr. Warren Hern, author of "Abortion Practice" and a specialtist in late term abortion states, "I would dispute any statement that this is the safest procedure used. Turning the fetus to a breech position is potentially dangerous. You have to be concerned about causing amniotic fluid embolism or placenta abruption if you do that."
Dr. Pamela Smith adds 2 other concerns: cervical imcompetence in subsequent pregnancies caused by 3 days of forceful dilation of the cerivx and uterine rupture caused by rotating the fetus within the womb. "there are absolutely no obstetrical situations encountered in this country which require a partially delivered human fetus to be destroyed to preserve the life of the mother."

Q. Is the procedure limited to serious genetic defects or cases of serious health risk to the mother?
A. I was involved in 15,000 partial birth abortions and never saw one for genetic defect or a serious health risk to the mother.
In a 1993 interview with AM news, Dr Martin Haskell conceded that 80% of his late term abortions were elective. Dr. McMahon of CA said he would do an elective abortion after 26 weeks, but in a chart he released to House Judiciary Commitee, depression was listed most often as the reason for a late term, non-elective abortion with maternal indictions. Cleft lip was listed 9 times under fetal indications.

Q. Is this a dangerous procedure for the mother?
A. This procedure is very dangeroous to the mother because of blood loss and the fragility of the advanced pregnant uterus. I saw 1 out of every 500 women have hysterectomies, colostomies, and one woman died following a partial birth abortion procedure in our clinic. We moved her quickly out of the clinic so we could always say we'd never had a death there.

Q. Is the baby given anesthetic before the partial birth procedure is performed?
A. No. And any given to the mother does not affect the baby.

Q. Do babies have a heartbeat and brain waves before birth?
A. A baby has a heart beat 18-21 days after conception and brain waves 40-42 days after conception.

Q. What does abortion do to men?
A. We do not have good studies to show what abortion really does to men. We know that men deny their pain from the abortion experience longer than women do. We are finding that they are becoming very aggressive in sports or work, will work well below their level of capability or will not work at all.

Q. Are harvested organs sold?
A. it is illegal in most states for harvested organs to be sold, however, the babies' bodies are packed in dry ice with the organs in a separate container and transported to teaching hospitals. I am told they are purchased at 100$/pound.

Q. After the organs have been taken, what happens to the babies' body?
A. When I was in the abortion industry. we put the babies down a garbage disposal. In the late term abortions, we took the babies to our rival abortion clinic's dumpster to be found in their trash, not ours.

Q. Is this nothing more than infantcide?
A. This procedure is inches away from- the measurement of the baby's head-infantcide. Most of the babies aborted in a partial birth abortion could sustain life outside the womb. Like China where unwanted babies, escpecially girls, are killed after being born, the partial birth procedure is simply done because the mother does not want the baby. In the case of a true risk to the mother's life, a Cesarean section would be performed.

Q. Do you see America following this same progression toward infantcide?
A. In 1973 when abortion was legalized the pro life movement talked about the slippery slope toward euthanasia. I believe partial birth abortion is the slippery slope toward infantcide.

Q. Why is the media so reluctant to fully report on this issue?
A. Many in the media by their own admission are "pro choice". We can never expect them to report on something that is inconsistent to their views.

Q. What can be done to stop this procedure?
Overturning Roe V Wade or enacting state and federal legislation would stop this procedure. I believe only the ordinary citizens of America sharing the truth of this procedure in their sphere of influence and standing against this procedure can stop it.
