Wetlands Classification

Lists are an important way of organizing information. Making lists allows your mind to think in new directions.

Directions: As a class make a set of lists to answer the following questions.

1. List all the animals or plants in the swamp that can sting or bite people.
2. List all the things in a freshwater marsh that crunch.
3. List all the things in the wetlands that crawl.
4. List all the sounds you would hear on an overnight camp out in the swamp.
5. List all the things in the wetlands we can eat.
6. List all the wetlands plants and animals from which we make things to wear.
7. List all the people who make money from a healthy commercial fishing industry.
8. List all the wetlands animals whose actions make you laugh and say what each does that is so funny.
9. List all the different shades of green and brown you can find in a marsh by giving each shade a name.
10. List all the titles of all the lists that you could make about the wetlands.

Directions:
1. Draw a picture of a marsh, bog or swamp. Include the appropriate animals and plants.
2. Classify all the plants and animals in your picture and label them.

Directions: Select an animal or plant from any of the activities. Write an acrostic, haiku, or cinquain poem about that animal or plant. Use words that describe the nature and habits of the animal or plant. You may do as many as you like, with a minimum of two different types.
