Stuart Little: Lesson 1

Purpose:
Students will:
1: Identify locations from the story and locate them on their map.
2: Create their own list of places and find them on the map
Rationale:
Students will better understand the story if they have an idea of where places are in
relation to each other and the student.
Materials:
-Multiple copies of Stuart Little
-Paper for lists
-Multiple copies of street maps of New York City
-Markers
Content:
East River, Fifth Avenue, Hudson River, 72nd Street, Broadway, Central Park, Statue of
Liberty, Ellis Island, any other NYC landmarks
Activities:
1. While reading the story as a group, students make a list and map places from text
2. Independently, students make their own list and locate them on their individual maps
Management:
1. Group reading will be set up in circle near wall with paper for the list and the map on
the wall for ease of use.
2. Independent list making will be done at their seats.
Assessment:
Child correctly locates places from the story and their personal list on a the map.
