Learning Principles
Developing these learning principles was a very good experience for me.
You never really think about how you feel about learning... you know how you
learn and you think you know how other people learn. But do you really?
I challenge you to develop your own learning principles and compare them to
mine or your spouse's, or your girlfriend's, or your child's... Are they the
same or different?
My Personal Learning Principles
- Everyone is different and therefore learns at a different pace.
- Not everyone learns the same way; there are different ways to learn. For
example: listening, reading and experiencing.
- Pride in having learned new concepts and ideas should be encouraged.
- Learning isn't always difficult or easy.
- Learning is fun.
- Being able to experience concepts and ideas in action greatly helps the learning
process.
- Once ideas and concepts are internalized, they can be applied to problems.
- Concepts and ideas should be relevant and important to the learner's life.
- The learner must understand the concept before they can truly learn it.
- Concepts and ideas must be developmentally appropriate for the learner.
