A broken arm sidelined Davida White last year, and she was not expected to return to international rugby. However her qualities of leadership and ability to win ball at the breakdown proved irresistible to the selectors. White captained Auckland to victory in this year's National Provincial Championship. She has been a New Zealand representative since 1993, and made her Test debut on the following year's tour to Australia. Played at the 1996 Canada Cup and in all five Tests at the 1998 World Cup, during which she captained New Zealand against Spain.
