Dear user of The Electronic Edition of the New Testament Recovery Version,

Recently we learned of a software package which is compatible with our Electronic Edition files and which has fairly extensive Windows capability. The package is called Seedmaster and was at one time offered by White Harvest Software, Inc. We recommend this software to those of you who wish to access the Recovery Version in the Windows environment. There are various add-on Bible version databases (for example, American Standard Version, J. N. Darby's New Translation, King James Version with and without strong Numbers, etc.) for use with Seedmaster (available on the Internet-search for "Seedmaster" using one of the many Internet search sites). Our Electronic Recovery Version text files as well as the Recovery Version footnotes files are also compatible with Seedmaster. Word searches can be made in the footnotes, and cross references can be accessed from within the footnote screens. (As you may have noticed, the cross references of the Recovery Version are stored within the footnote files.) See the sample screens on the back side of this notice.

The software publisher of this package, White Harvest Software, no longer sells or supports Seedmaster, but they are allowing us to distribute the last version they produced (Version 3.1a). They do not want users of this product to register the software with them, and they are not able to answer installation and support questions. White Harvest Software has asked that our users do not call them either for support or for purchasing additional Bible databases. (These are now available for free on the Internet.)

We are including a copy of the Seedmaster installation disk and an information sheet for accessing the data files of The Electronic Edition of the New Testament Recovery Version in Seedmaster. Unfortunately, we are not able to answer support and installation questions for this product either. Please do not call the Living Stream Ministry for questions regarding Seedmaster. Generally, you will be able to work through most problems with the help of an experienced Windows user.

We hope that this program will enhance your study of the truth in the Recovery Version.

Book Section

In order to use the data files of the Electronic Edition of the Recovery Version New Testament with SeedMaster for Windows, the following procedure should be followed:

1. Make sure you have properly installed the Electronic Edition of the Recovery Version (henceforth, the Electronic RcV) according to the instructions in the manual accompanying the software. In the steps below we will assume that you have installed the Electronic RcV in C:\BIBLE. If you installed it elsewhere, substitute your actual installed path in the steps below, instead of C:\BIBLE.

2. Make sure you have properly installed SeedMaster for Windows (henceforth, SMW) according to the instructions in the manual accompanying the software. In the steps below we will assume that you have installed SMW in C:\SM. If you installed it elsewhere, substitute your actual installed path in the steps below, instead of C:\SM.

3. Open Windows and launch File Manager if it is not running already. Go to the C:\BIBLE directory.

4. If you have the directories NOTES.000, NOTES.030, and NOTES.060, rename them to XNOTES.000, XNOTES.030, and XNOTES.060, respectively, using the Rename command under the File menu.

5. Rename the directories RVNOTES.000, RVNOTES.030, and RVNOTES.060 to NOTES.000, NOTES.030, and NOTES.060, respectively, using the Rename command under the File menu. These directories contain the footnotes and cross-references to the Recovery Version and must be renamed for SMW's conversion program to work properly. After completing step 10 below, you should restore the original names to the directories renamed in this step FIRST, then to those renamed in step 4; otherwise, the DOS Electronic Edition notes will not function properly.

6. Go to DOS (either by exiting Windows altogether or by running a DOS session under Windows), and go to the C:\SM directory.

7. Type the following command at the DOS prompt:

	olb2sm c:\bible c:\sm 4

You should see the footnote/cross-reference conversion taking place. There are 31,102 records to process. (If the command fails, first delete any files matching the wildcard COMMENT.*, then try again.)

8. Go back (in)to Windows, and launch the Notepad application (usually in the Accessories Program Manager group). You should have a new ("Untitled") document in the Notepad window. Type only the letters "rcv" (no quotes). Save the file, using the Save command under the File menu, into the C:\BIBLE\RV directory with the filename ID.DAT. This creates the version file that SMW uses to recognize the Recovery Version.

9. Now launch SMW, open the File menu, and click on the Directories command. The Directories dialog box will appear. In the second-to-last field ("Online Bible Base:"), type "C:\BIBLE" (no quotes); and in the last field ("Online Bible Sub-Dirs:"), type "RV" (no quotes). This tells SMW where to look for the Recovery Version files. Click on OK to close the dialog box. An information window will tell you that changes will not take effect until you next load SMW. Click on OK in the information window, and exit SMW. You must exit SMW in order for the directory settings to take effect.

10. Launch SMW again. You should see the copyright of the Recovery Version in one of the opening windows. The Recovery Version will be in your version list now as "rcv" (in lowercase letters because it is an Online Bible database as opposed to a native SMW database).

You can search the text of the Recovery Version as you would any other SMW version. You can bring up the footnotes for any New Testament verse by bringing up the verse then opening a New Commentary window. (How you do this depends on the version of SMW that you have. See the SMW manual.) Once you have the footnotes showing in a Commentary window, you can search the footnotes for words and phrases.

The cross references are part of the footnotes file and are preceded by the symbol '#.' The verse portion of the cross references should be in a different color (usually green) and can be double-clicked to open a window containing the text of the cross reference. If the verse portion is not in a different color, you are in "resource edit" mode. Open the Edit menu, and click on Resource Edit to toggle to non-edit mode. That should render the verse portion of the cross references in a different color, and you should be able to double-click on them to bring up the text of the cross references.
