I have several. Multiage Programs - it appears that this is the "Thing" and I am concerned who this style is permeating all levels of education. It needs to stop. Do you know of any schools or districts that have stopped this? Gifted programs are certainly not all they are to be. Illinois has no IEP's for gifted students. Do you know of this and how to get one implemented? I feel overall the educational system lacks in so many areas. Any info and sites you can share with me would be appreciated.

How discouraging it is to have a gifted child that must be in a class with kids that don't even want to be in school. How can she be expected to learn when only 4 of the 25 students can even spell the word "vocabulary" much less use it correctly in a sen ence! Every day at least 3 of the students are in the "ALR" (in school suspension room)!! Let's teach our kids to be average!! I won't even go into mainstreaming, it's a waste of my money and my child's time. Thanks for letting me vent.

Nice to see a page such as yours... I'm a student from Canada and your page made me realize that, everywhere in the world, the school system is divided in two: education for the rich (mostly the private system) and education for the others (the public sy tem)... This division is making the access to knowledge much more difficult and is, by doing so, antidemocratic... But we can't blame anyone but the society because school shows the values of the society... We won't be protecting the democratic side of school if we don't raise the standards in the public school system. Comments on my thought would be appreciated so don't hesitate to email me...

MT: I found your page while searching for banned books. I love the concept and your ideas. I too feel the educational system is trying to manufacture mindless robots. What a sad state our future seems to be in. I would love to hear more of your thoughts Email me sometime! greyjargon

I'm a 30 y old teacher from Portugal, and I'm very disappointed with our educational reform and new methods and theories. Quality is lowering to dangerous levels but official reports say it's great. I'll drop by your great page more often.

Hi. I just felt the need to point out that while I understand and congratulate you on what you're doing, it's hard to take your page about the sad state of education seriously when you have typo's, misspellings and fragment sentences. It may seem trivial and insignificant, but it makes you less credible and almost the butt of your own joke. Sorry to give such negative feedback, but if I notice, others will too. You want people to keep reading, not laugh and move on.

MT, it's about time there was a web page like this. I have felt so many times exactly what you are also saying here. Everybody else seems to walk about with a content grin on their face, not realizing how they've been cheated out of something very impor ant. Why are we dumbing ourselves down with this mediocre educational system that the US seems to be so proud of? I don't particularly care to be like everybody else around me, so why am I being pushed into that position? Oh well, I could go on, but I an't say anything that hasn't been said before at this point, so I'll stop.

As a public school teacher and mother of two, I really enjoyed seeing your feelings posted on the internet. I think students should be outraged, and I'm glad you are. Maybe you got more than you think since you have such a talent for expression, unfortu ately you had to waste your time to find that out. As a parent I am extremely proactive in my child's education and work towards fulfilling my vision of my children's education. As a teacher I am very frustrated and stressed out. I teach special educat on and majored in emotional impairments, however, the students are a blast....much of the system makes you want to jump off the roof...or at the very least...actually eat the school lunch... think about that one. If a major institution cannot perfect som thing like serving a decent meal once a day....hmmmmmm.Anyway, if you're interested, I would be thrilled to share my philosophy on taking charge of your child's education. I cannot wait for reform to occur as my children will graduate before anything sub tantial happens, and that is not guaranteed. meanwhile, I'm still in charge of them and responsible for their education. One day when you are a parent, you will need to be able to define how you are going to achieve a successful education career for you kids. Expression and discussion is great, but you will need to know what to do. E me if you ever have time. -kim

Well Chris, your page kicks ass. I think that you should expand your opinion though, to include Canada atleast. It seems that our educational system is very much related to yours, and I'm living proof that an imagination and creativity are not appreciated in school. I also think that you should get some opinions of teachers and other educational spoke-persons opinions and concerns voiced on your page, just to get the other side of the story.
