TIME LINE FOR THE CIVIL WAR, COLONEL ALFRED B. WADE AND THE 73RD INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY-1864.

Feb. 25, 1864 - Major A.B. Wade is exchanged for rebel Major James S. Gholson of the 16th Georgia who had been captured at Gettysburg. The exchange is arranged by Representative Schuyler Colfax, then Speaker of the House and a personal friend of Wade's.

March 5th, 1864 - Major Wade meets the President and Mrs. Lincoln at a reception held at the White House.

March 23, 1864 - After a brief stay at the Washington home of Schuyler Colfax, Wade returns to his home in South Bend, Indiana.

March 28, 1864 - Wade receives orders to reform the 73rd Indiana under his command in the city of Nashville, Tennessee.

May 5, 1864 - The armies of Generals Lee and Grant fight the Battle of the Wilderness (Va.) and Grant's "Overland Campaign" begins.

May, 1864 - The 73rd Indiana is assigned duty in Lavergne, Tennessee.

May 10, 1864 - The Battle of Spotsylvania (Va.) begins.

May 25, 1864 - A four day fight between Generals Johnson and Sherman begins at New Hope Church, Ga..

June, 1864 - The 73rd Indiana begins garrison duty on the Tennessee River near Decatur and Athens in Northern Alabama.

June 1, 1864 - The Battle of Cold Harbor (Va.) begins.

June 18, 1864 - The siege of Richmond and Petersburg, Va. begins by Grant's Union forces.

Sept. 2, 1864 - Union troops under the command of General Sherman occupy Atlanta.

Sept. 23, 1864 - The 73rd Indiana is involved in a heavy skirmish with the cavalry of General Forrest near Decatur, Alabama. The Southern force is led by General Hood and is attempting an invasion of Tennessee.

Oct. 28, 1864 - Again the 73rd Indiana has a large skirmish with the troops of Nathan B. Forrest but near Athens, Alabama.

Nov. 8, 1864 - Lincoln is reelected as President.

Nov. 15, 1864 - Sherman begins his march to the sea.

Nov. 30, 1864 - Hood begins the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee.

December 16, 1864 - Hood is defeated at the Battle of Nashville, Tennessee.
