TIME LINE FOR THE CIVIL WAR, COLONEL ALFRED B. WADE AND THE 73RD INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY-1862.

Jan. 1862 - A.B. Wade's 90 day enlistment is completed and he is mustered out of the 9th Indiana.

April 6, 1862 - Battle of Shiloh (Tn.) is fought.

June 1, 1862 - Robert E. Lee takes command of the Confederate forces in front of Richmond after General Joe Johnson is seriously wounded.

Aug. 1862 - The 73rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry is organized at Camp Rose in South Bend and is soon sent to Indianapolis. The men come from the 9th Congressional District which is represented by Schuyler Colfax.

Aug. 27, 1862 - A.B. Wade joins the 73rd Indiana, in Lexington, Ky., as the Regimental Adjutant with the rank of Major.

Sept. 17, 1862 - The Battle of Antietam (Maryland) is fought.

Oct. 8, 1862 - The Battle of Perryville (Ky.) or Chaplin Hills is fought. This is the first major conflict the 73rd Indiana is involved in.

October 30, 1862 - General Rosecrans replaces General Buell as commander of the Army of the Cumberland. The 73rd Indiana is a regiment of this army.

Dec. 13, 1862 - The Battle of Fredericksburg (Va.) is fought.

Dec. 31, 1862 and Jan. 1 and 2, 1863 - The Battle of Stones River (Tn.) is fought. The 73rd Indiana is actively engaged and looses 92 men out of their 250 who were present.
