History of the Band

The Coxsackie-Athens Community Band was organized in 1973 by then Superintendent of the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, S.C. DeLucia, who plays Tuba in the Band. An outgrowth of the High School Band, it developed into a marching band and then into a concert band. The personnel of the band is made up of high school students, professional musicians, non-professionals and retirees. Anyone interested in joining the band may contact the Director at the email address below.

The Community Band rehearses every Wednesday evening during the school year at 7:30 in the Coxsackie-Athens High School Band Room. Performances are scheduled throughout the school year with most of the concerts held at Christmas time and in the Spring.

Ann L. Clapper, the present conductor, has directed the Band since 1986. She is a graduate of Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., and has a BS in Music Education with a major in Bass Trombone. She recently retired from teaching Instrumental Music in the Catskill, N.Y., Central Schools. Ann also plays the Tuba in several other organizations.
