Working at a state psychiatric hospital, helping people who have a mental illness and their families
by Kay Johnson McCrary, Ed.D.

From 1977 until 1989 I worked at the historic asylum, South Carolina State Hospital on Bull Street in downtown Columbia.  When it quit taking admissions and began only taking transfer patients thus becoming a long-term care facility, I was transferred to G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in northeast Columbia.  I am the Director of Patient & Family Education.
