GRAND PRIZE WINNERS
in the
virtual classroom contest 1998-99

Our team has won the First Prize among 40 teams, in the Elementary School category, from all over the world. The 20 Participants in this contest were---

Niranjan Kumar, Manan Arya, Akshay Johar, Aatraye Almast, Nupur Mehta, Nitya Dutta, Aarti Bhardwaj, Karan Oberoi, Sanyukt, Girish, Alisha Talwar, Radhika Bansal, Aarushi Chanana, Ramit Bhatnagar, Tushaar Gambhir, Anumeha, Ishaan Chaaya, Purnima Chowdhry, Anjana Seshadri, Udit Rastogi.

8000 Children from 300 schools worldwide had participated. 100 teams (Each team had three schools) had been formed. 14 schools participated from India. Delhi Public School, East of Kailash is the only Indian School to have won the first prize in this contest.

On May 14th 1999, two students, Niranjan Kumar and Nupur Mehta of Class V of Delhi Public School, East of Kailash travelled to Hong Kong to accept trophy at the AT & T Virtual Classroom Contest 1998-99 awards ceremony. They represented all their team members and the School.

During the week , from May 15th to May 19th , these children met their virtual classmates from Florida ( USA) and Manitoba ( Canada) with whom they had worked together, as a team, for 5 months, in a virtual classroom.

AT & T Asia/ Pacific President and CEO, Jo-Ann Patrick-Ezzell, who was also a judge in the contest, presented the trophies to the Grand Prize Winners. Delhi Public School, East of Kailash has received a trophy, certificate and a modem as its award.

A special mention was made by AT&T on the effort made by the Staff and Students of Delhi Public School, East of Kailash for working in School, late nights in order to video conference and chat ( to exchange information and discuss the web site) with their partner schools , since there was a large difference in the time zones.

After the ceremony , the other participants and AT & T people congratulated Delhi Public School, East of Kailash students.

This trip has been a very memorable experience for the students of Delhi Public School, East of Kailash.
