I do not think it self-aggrandisement to say that I am regarded in the community as a fine representative of the values of education. My commitment to educating myself and ensuring that my education was of value to my community in a broader sense than employability or profitability is seen as an example of the best qualities of higher education. My decision to liberate myself from Monash, however, is not based on reasons of self-glorification. Quite simply, I felt that my name was being used as a gesture to give to credibility to the destruction of decent higher education in Australia.
