Valley of the Shadow was the first-ever recipient of this award (1998). This site looks at the Civil War from the perspective of two communitites on either side of the Mason Dixon Line: Staunton, Virginia and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust. The name of this site is fairly self-explanatory - the first addition to the class of 1999, this page uses ease of navigation and thorough research to bring light to an important issue in world history.
The Remembrance Awards were created in 1998 to commemorate American students' homepages. The Awards are given semi-annually, and can be awarded to any student in an American college or university or any other page that maintains a homepage on the World Wide Web that seeks to educate America and the world on an historical event, or in any aspect of education. The awards are given based upon initial impression by the author of this site, and are not affiliated with Kent State University. I will maintain a page with links to all winners of the award, arranged by subject. The only qualifications are:
The site must be educational in nature and in content.
The site must have nominated for the award via this web page by its author or a visitor to the site. Nominations may not be filed more than once per period of six months.
The site must be deemed by the administrator of this site to be of superior quality in three areas: educational content, visible attractiveness, and ease of navigation. Scores between 0 and 30 will be assigned to each page and the top entries will receive the awards. Up to 10 additional points may be added for creativity and originality.
Upon receipt of the award, to be known as the Remembrance Award for Excellence in History and Education, the maintainer of the award-winning site must prominently display the award and link (www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/8203) on the front page or a designated awards page within his or her site. In return, said site will be provided a link on the Remembrance Awards page.
If you would like to nominate a site, email the administrator of this page and leave your name, email, URL, and site topic. Sites will be visited and judged within 2-4 weeks. The winners will receive email notification within a week before the posting of the awards.
