The GWIS of Bahrain is an outcome of the project "Bahrain Water Resources Management Plan" executed in 1994-95 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Using his own software, Ground Water for Windows, J. Karanjac and staff from the Water Resources Directorate (WRD) entered information from about 2,000 wells into a computerized data base. The data include: lithology, stratigraphy, chemistry (single samples, depth and time series), abstractions, water levels, rainfall, etc. The GWIS creates and stores cross sections, fence diagrams, various chemical diagrams, contour maps (chemical, piezometric, stratigraphic, and topographic), etc.
In his two visits to Bahrain, J.Karanjac trained several professionals from the WRD (local and expatriates) in using the Ground Water for Windows (GWW) software for ground water data processing.
