Hot RR news (Greek encoding) Line closures revoked!
The 12km long Pyrgos - Katakolo branch of the metre-gauge Peloponnese RR was closed on the Greek national holiday on Oct 28th 1998. It was the second line to close within 4 months, after the Thessalian metre gauge. Service was suspended due to the deteriorated track condition.
Service was reinstated however in summer 2007, after totally relaying the track. All work was done in-house by track gangs.
The Asprochoma - Messene branchline followed suit and sees now extensive commuter service to Kalamata Airport.
