Aldegondes Rita Kennedy was the third child born to William Patrick Kennedy and Mary Margaret Landrigan. She was the only one of their children who was not a native of New York state, having been born in Trenton, NJ. Alde suffered from curvature of the spine and at times grew tiresome of the teasing of her little brother, Billy. On one occasion (according to her brother) she hurled a glass of ketsup in his general direction, but unfortunately the target she found was her uncle, John Landrigan.
Alde married Ernest Gardiner Payne on 23 July, 1930. They were married by Justice Henry A. Murphy of Huntington. He was the only son of Capt. Charles Gardiner Payne and Jessie Bloomer Payne. Ernest was an insurance agent in Northport, NY and Alde worked as his secretary. Their marriage was tragically short-lived for Ernie died of a strep infection at Huntington Hospital on 15 January 1936, only two months after the birth of their second child. Compounding Alde's difficulties was that her baby was afflicted with Down's Syndrome, just as a child of her sister, Dorothy Dugan, had been.
Alde worked for many years in the Toy Department of the Northport 5&10. She died on 22 December, 1967.

Charles Gardiner Payne
Captain Charles Gardiner Payne was born on 27 March, 1859. He was the son of Nathaniel Payne and Mary Francis Smith, who was a descendant of Richard "Bull" Smith, the founder of Smithtown, LI.
Like his father before him, Charles Payne entered the maritime trade and captained many a ship out of Northport Harbor, including the Rev. John Fletcher of which he was part owner. On 4 May, 1887, he married Jessie Burnett Bloomer, (b. 31 D 1859 in Troy, NY), the daughter of Samuel W. Bloomer (1832--1888) and Margaret Ann Dubois (1835--1895). The Bloomers had another daughter, Katherine Bloomer (1854--??), who had married William Ingersoll prior to 1880.
Charles and Margaret moved into a home on prestigious Bayview Avenue in Northport. Both Charles and Jessie were active in civic and church (St. Paul's Methodist) activities. Charles was a member of the Alcyone Lodge of Masons and Jessie belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and WCTU.
After retiring from the sea, Capt. Payne was the keeper of the Eaton's Neck lighthouse. Jessie Payne died of bronchial pneumonia on 26 March, 1931. Charles Payne died on 12 June, 1948. Both are buried at Northport Rural Cemetery.

Nathaniel Payne
Little is known about Nathaniel Payne. The 1860 Census (NY) lists him as a 37-year old New York-born boatman living in Southampton, LI, with his wife, Mary (23), and son, Charles. He may have died during the next ten years because the 1870 Census reveals Mary and Charles living in Northport.
Mary Francis Smith Payne died on 25 Ja 1875. Charles Gardiner Payne was their only known child.
