Mary Margaret Landrigan
Mother of William Allen Kennedy

Mary Margaret Landrigan was the eldest of seven children born to James P. Landrigan and Mary Ann (Larkin) Power. She was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on March 23, 1878. Five brothers and a sister followed.

When the 1881 Census was taken, Mary, her parents, and brother, John Francis, were enumerated with Mary's grandparents, John and Mary Power. But before the decade was out, James Landrigan moved with his family to Huntington, Long Island.

Mary sailed with mother and siblings from Halifax, Nova Scotia and arrived in Boston on 5 October, 1891 on the State of Indiana. Mary Landrigan married William Patrick Kennedy on 2 March, 1900. Interestingly, the 1900 NY Census lists her as living with her parents. About six months after their marriage (September), Mary gave birth to their first child, Dorothy Lillian Kennedy. The same Census enumerates William Kennedy, occupation "head coachman", as a boarder with a Sam Hartridge. Another of the boarders was Joseph Landrigan, Mary's brother. Why were William and Mary living separately? The reason may be a matter of economics. On the 1910 NY Census, Mary is still living with her parents (William was apparently in California at the time).
