Cultural Awareness Club

Purpose- The main objective of this club would be to broaden the students perspectives and perceptions of other cultures and nationalities. In this club we would also like to contribute things to the La Sallian community and the community around us.

Why is this club necessary?- La Salle has many students from many ethnic backgrounds. Due to this wonderful mix of students it is my belief that the students of La Salle need to learn more about each others cultures to help us get along better and understand each other more. Another reason for the clubs necessity is La Salle needs more clubs that reach out to less fortunate or misguided people in the community. We also want to provide a forum to educate through this club.

Examples of what our club would achieve in terms of cultural awareness- During certain cultural holidays such as the Chinese New Year, Cinco De Mayo and Black History Month, our goal would be to enlighten our members about these different cultures and the significance of the holiday. Hopefully other students at La Salle will be influenced by the members of our club and learn more about these topics. We would accomplish teaching our members about other cultures by having people from that particular culture teach us about the event, or subject and explain the significance of it. Students and experts would be invited to speak on these topics could. Our members would also be given the option of entering certain essay contest about a certain cultural event.

Examples of what our club would accomplish in terms of contributing to La Salle- Our club would solicit different corporations to contribute things to La Salle, such as college scholarships. We could also request for special academic activities from these corporations. The middle school that I attended had a program where JPL offered courses and activities to the students, as a partnership with the school. I feel this could be done at our school through the club.

Examples of what our club would do in terms of helping out in the community- Our club would do things like collecting food for the needy and providing them with clothes or toys.

Isn't there a club just like this?- The international club may have some of the same objectives as ours, but there is still a need for the CAC. By creating this club it will give us the opportunity to accomplish our goals and contribute something new to La Salle. Our club will only work to improve La Salle.
