Introduction to the Cultural Awareness Club
The Cultural Awareness Club (CAC) was founded by two students at La Salle High School in
September of 1996. The club at this moment has 72 members which is rufly 10% of La Salle’s
student body. CAC was founded on the premise that the only way to end racism, stereo-types and
misconceptions is to become informed and to interact with people of other cultures and races. The
CAC is comprised of a very diverse group of students who want to learn and interact with people
of different cultural backgrounds. Every race is well represented in the Cultural Awareness Club
and the activities our club participates in reflects our diversity. Members of the club have learned
about many cultures while at the same time having fun. Activities our club sponsored last semester
included the celebration of Oktoberfest (German Holiday), the Mexican holiday of Dia De Los
Muertos, the African American holiday of Kwanza and many club discussion on current racial
issues in this country. A statement which would sum up our clubs philosophy is "Regardless of race
we are all people and to prosper as a nation we must remember this. If a Mexican Student is
celebrating Cinco De Mayo then our nation should celebrate Cinco De Mayo, if an African
American student looks at Malcom X with pride our nation should look at Malcom X with pride, if
an Irish American student glorifies an Irish Warrior our nation should glorify this Irish Warrior and if
a Filipino Student enjoys Filipino Food then our nation should enjoy Filipino Food". The results of
our club have been very rewarding and we hope to continue our work in the future. We hope you
