Dictation refers to reproducing the words in writing followed by listening. Dictation develops one's ability in careful listening,reduces spelling mistake,develops exposure on grammatical pattern,draws attention to sound letter correspondence and develops listening comprehension,and increases in speed of writing.Since it requires remembering, possibly it helps in increasing strength of short term memory span..
 
 

Parameters for assessment of dictation.


1.No. of words written per minute.
2.Percentage of correct words
3.Percentage of overlapping of letters
4.Percentage of omission of letter
5.Percentage of omission of words
6.Percentage of erasing the words
