Having problems pronouncing "George's Name"? - Let me show you how - Click on the "George's Name" link :)
In Greek, one rolls the "r" and pronounces the "p" much like a "B" (but not quite! Sort of a cross between "B" and "P"). Hence, George's family name "Panayiotou", is pronounced much like "Banayiotou" but the "B" is NOT accentuated as much as a regular "B" would be - Does this make any sense?
Example: "Vassili", which translates to "Basil" or "Billy" (William) is another example where the consonnants are mistaken/merged somehow - As is the case with the name of the letter "B" in Greek: "Beta" is pronouced "Veeta", and so forth...
I'm told that Russian is very much the same in that respect. I'll pick some Russian up someday, along with some Mandarin and Arabic, when I find some extra time. I'm presently studying Latin and Hebrew on my own time (Which isn't much nowadays!)

Though such "courses" were more than often "generously" offered, (Arabic men seem to have it in for me, for some reason!! - lol) I didn't learn ALL of my languages THAT way!! My God!! I gotta come up for air SOMETIME, no? - lol
Actually, my Ex-Boyfriend taught me Greek (Among a few "other things" - lol) - And, to this day, it remains my favourite language/mentality/culture, etc.... The rest of the languages I speak, I learned on my own. No, but... Honest!! *Sigh* Nobody EVER believes me!! - lol
