What is our ideology?
Ideology is define as the way we view the world and everything in it, our world view. There are two main world views, capitalist and working class. Ours is the ideology of the working class, Marxism-Leninism.
Our ideology, working class ideology, is a system of thought which gives us a unique way of looking at everything in life. The role of the working class and the class struggle is the very foundation stone of our ideology.
Our ideology is a long-term unifier. It is a unifier of the class struggle of the working class and the nationally oppressed. It brings together the different arenas of struggle.
Ideology is one of the three main forms of the class struggle. The other two are politics and economics. In general, ideology serves as a framework, an overall backdrop. In a sense, it becomes a political and ideological conditioned reflex that is often expressed unconsciously.
A mastery of our Marxist working-class ideology gives us a unique way of looking at all phenomena in life. It molds our attitudes about everything. It even becomes part of our personal character. It determines our morality, our ethics, our culture, etc.
Ideology acts as a political stabilizer. It is not just a list of ideas. It is a rounded-out single harmonious whole, a system of thought.It is a science of thought and a science for social change. In its essence, it represents the unity of revolutionary theory and revolutionary practice.
However, Marxist-Leninist ideology is not the same in each country. For example, the general law that under capitalism there are the exploited and exploiters locked in class struggle is the same for all capitalist countries. But the status of the class struggle, the objective conditions are different for each country. Ideology has a national character because it reflects the specific racial and national composition of its country.
Our U.S. working class is a single class - multiracial, multinational. But all are exploited as a class, which is what unites the class. Thus, in our country there can be no class unity without a fight against both class exploitation and the super-exploitation as a result of racism. There must be a national element in the application of ideology. We have to develop our applications based on our own objective situation, our history, our experiences, etc.
For example, when we apply our science to the study of the steel industry of any capitalist country the general laws apply. But the history, the conditions, the problems, the struggles are not the same, for example, in the U.S. and Japan. We apply the same general laws to both, but the application of those laws are not the same.
Marx and Engels developed their theories and ideological concepts based on the struggles of the German and British working class. Lenin, developed his based on the struggles of the Russian workers. We must develop ours based on the class struggle of the U.S. working class.
Thus, ideology must never be formal, mechanical, rigid. It must be loose, flexible so the different elements and concepts can change to fit time, place and circumstance. Like everything in else in life ideology is not a dead, static, lifeless system of thought. It develops, grows and changes. Ideology is about laws, principles and theories that are constantly expanding with experience and struggle.
Patients Bill of Wrongs:
� George Bush likes Tennessee Senator Bill Frist so much that he chose him to sponsor the Republican' version of a "Patients Bill of Rights", a measure shot through with so many giveaways to the HMOS and the insurance companies it has been called a "Patients Bill of Wrongs"
Dr. Frist, a hardline Bush-Chaney loyalist, owns $25 million in stock in his family's scandal-plagued corporation, Columbia/HCA, which is headed by his brother, Thomas. Columbia/HCA bought up 343 hospitals and 150 outpatient surgery centers nationwide, a $20 billion health care empire.
But in 1997, an FBI probe revealed the firm was engaged in massive Medicare fraud, overcharging for services not rendered, delivering second-rate care for its patients. It also engaged in vicious unionbusting tactics against its employees. It was proof that the Medical-Industrial Complex is out of control, profiteering at their patients' expense. Asking Frist to fix this poblem is like hiring "Pretty Boy" Floyd to guard the bank.
Bush appoints oil men to "regulate" the oil industry, polluters to "protect the environment", weapons-maker to head the Pentagon and school privatizers to oversee the Department of Education. The HMO-Insurance Industry Complex and Bush have joined in denouncing an alternative bill by Ted Kennedy and John McCain that would give patients the right to file lawsuits. How's that for hypocrisy, coming from a con mand who litigated his way into the White House!!
The real solution is a national health care system modeled on Social Security that provides universal protection.
The danger is that the HMO-Insurance Industry Complex backed by Bush and the ultra-right, will succeed in shooting down the Patients' Bill of Rights just as they derailed the Clinton health care plan. A comprehensive prescription drup benefit under Medicare should be added to the Kennedy-McCain bill and it should be passed and sent to Bush quickly.
