THE SILENCE AND THE CLOUDS

Joshua J. Johnson, 20 Oct 98

I rest my head in silence

My eyes focus on the sky

Watching the clouds as they slowly pass by

My mind grows tired

As it sifts through memories

Of a happier time

And in daydreams

Where the past is still alive

I close my heavy eyes

And drift off to sleep

In my dreams I see your smile

And the sparkle in your eyes

I can almost feel your gentle touch

And the tickle down my spine

As you whisper softly in my ear

The sound of your voice an echo in my mind

I awake hoping to see you there

Only finding the silence and the clouds

Now as the tears fill my eyes

And roll slowly down my cheek

My heart sinks deep inside my chest

As I realize I am still alone

I stare at a worn photo

I love the look in your eyes

The familiar glow of happiness

A tear splashes the surface

As I think of hours spent

Gazing into your eyes

And the warmth I felt there

Now as I look to the sky

And the silent clouds that hang there

I imagine I'm looking into your eyes once again

The hollow place inside me

Is again filled with loving memories

Days and nights spent with you

In loving embrace

Lying in silence under a sky filled with clouds
