RUINS

20 Dec 99

By: Joshua J. Johnson

I stand before you

In a state of ruin

Take what you see

See now what you get

I am what remains

Of a once strong man

I wear the scars

Of a thousand broken hearts

For I've felt the pain

And watched as it drained

The hope,

The pride from me

Like a needle in my vein

Here now a soul in ruin

Alone and feeling drained

Afraid to rebuild

Fear the next fall could be the end

I no longer listen to the voices

For you see where they've led me

Hold my ears to their screams

For they can no longer ruin me

Sit now amongst what remains

Wait now for the one who will see me

See what remains is not at all me

She who will believe

Show me love

My savior in red lipstick

Pull me from my ruins

I pray

I need

Only someone to believe
