   The letter is difficult to read (it's a copy of the original ) but I will try my best.


It's addressed to : Mr Wm. Fryer Wimborn, Dorset (Spelling as is in Letter) Greenspond, NFLD, June 17, 1809 Sir: The Ann has arrived the only vesel that sailed from Poole in the last fleet. No person hear have received a Letter or any freight from you this Spring. But I have desired the people not to be to hasty untill thay hear further. I canot tell how it his but I thought you would be the last man that would be short in letters but no person in Pond have heard from you this Spring. But be provided your Dealin(?) his going to draw their money from you at a short notis witch I ham(?) sory (?) for but if you send letter this Spring let me know what vesel you (?)--ing -------in the hele--(?) now in Poole (?) belonging to Sleut [TC Note - Sleat]. 3 yards good serviceable cloth (?) 3 yards swanskin 2 par ya--h--(?) 3 boys'(?) --ts 3 cotton ---------- 1 par boys shos(?) six years old This letter --- --- -------- -- Quick (?)-- will not -- -- in Poole there will be a parcel com from Salisbury to you for me please put it in the bundle. Greenspond N F Land July 17,1809 Sir This informs you that me and the people in Pond have received the things you sent to thear satisfaction. Mr Isaac (?) Gover kept the freight & letters in Trinity untill two days ago. Their never was such fishing in Pond and all Bonavista Bay as this summer. Pond boats to sea but three weeks and have near 370 quintels fish on shore per a boat. I remain etc,(?) etc(?) David Goulden

Emily Mullett question: Was David Goulding born in England ? Is there any record of a David Goulding leaving for Newfoundland ? Was the six year old boy, Jacob , (my gggrandfather who was married in 1820 - the first Goulding record we can find ?) There are no records of any other Goulding marriages around that date but Jacob and Jane's (Grunter) children's births are all recorded. Thanks for your interest, Emily Mullett [email protected]
