The THOMAS COLES COLLECTION
FERRYLAND - 1652

Examination and Deposition of (Mrs.?) Philip Davies, taken at Ferryland, 24 August 1652:

She is not aware that Calvert ever had any power to collect an imposition from the fishermen.

She heard the second lord Baltimore say that Calvert had spent not more than L1,200 at
Ferryland.

Calvert had no more than 20 boats and some stages but she does not know who built them nor
how much profit was gained from the fishery.

Examination and depostiion of John Steevens taken at Ferryland, 24 August 1652: He does not know of any imposition collected by Calvert from the fishermen. He agrees that Calvert set forth war ships and fortified the harbour of Ferryland and that he kept boats and built stages to use in the fishery.
Examination and deposition of John Staughton of Capelinge bay, 31 August 1652: He knows that Calvert did not spend more than L1,800. Calvert did buy and build boats and build stages and he employed 32 boats in the fishery but Staughton believes that he suffered losses in the fishery.
Examination and deposition of Amie Taylor, taken at Ferryland, 24 August 1652: She claims that Calvert spent L1,700 on improvements at Ferryland and that he built 150 fishing boats as well as stages, but she does not know how much profit he made.
