HARASSMENT is any action by one person toward another that is unwelcome and makes the other person feel uncomfortable, uneasy or threatened. Any person who continues harassment after being asked to stop is breaking the law. Forms of harassment include:
- physical
- bullying, threatening behaviour, stalking
- racial
- treating another person poorly because of their racial background
- religious
- treating another person poorly because of their religion
- sexual
- by word or action
- verbal
- name-calling, abuse, put-downs, untrue rumours
VIOLENCE can be physical or non-physical. Violent acts include hitting, pushing, threats, bullying, spitting, barring a person's way, intimidation (individual or group).
WEAPONS are any implements which can be used to injure another person. In addition to illegal weapons (guns, knives, fighting sticks, knuckle-dusters, sling-shots etc.) the school doeas not permit students to be in possession of knives of any type, including pocket-knives and fruit/vegetable knives, or any object that could be used as weapon.
Breaches in the above areas will lead to suspension and/or police action. Possession of drugs or weapons will result in immediate police action.
