Whiskey in the Jar
Author Unknown
As I was goin' over the far-famed Kerry Mountains,
I met with Captain Ferrell and his money he was countin'
I first produced me pistol and then produced me rapier
Saying "Stand and deliver for I am your bold deceiver!"
Chorus:
Misha rig um du rum die,
Whack fol the darry O
Whack fol the darry O
There's whiskey in the jar, O!
I counted out me money and it made a pretty penny,
I put it in me pouch for to take home to my Jenny
She sighed and she swore that she never would deceive me,
But the Devil take all women for they always lie so easy.
(Chorus)
I went to me chambers for to take me slumber,
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure it was no wonder,
For Jenny stole me charges and she filled them up with water,
And called on Capttain Ferrell to be ready for the slaughter
(Chorus)
Twas early in the mornin' as I arose to travel,
The guards were all around me and likewise Captain Ferrell.
I then produced me pistols for she'd stole away me rapier,
But I couldn't shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken.
(Chorus)
If anyone can save me it's me brother in the Army.
I think that he is stationed down in Cork or in Killary.
And if he'd come and free me we'd go roamin' in KilKenney,
I swear he'd treat me better than me darlin' sportin' Jenny!
(Chorus)
Now some they take delight in the hurlin' and the bowlin'
And some they take delight in the carraiges arollin'.
But me I take delight in the juice of the barley,
And courtin' pretty women in the mornin' O so early!
(Chorus)
