The Bella Vista Palace Hotel is perched atop a hill in the old part of Perugia.

It was actually once a palace in the 17th century. Currently it is divided into two hotels: the Bella Vista*** and the Brufani****. the room above is one of several off the lobby.

We often walked up this staircase to our room, 162, on the first floor. The hotel staff was always very helpful.

This is the room where breakfast was served. We were told that the hotel was going to be remodeled and converted into one deluxe hotel with 100 rooms.

Our hotel faced the Piazza Italia. The view from the plaza were spectacular. Perugia is amazing. Any direction you look it's a "Kodak" moment. Here is the church of Santa Giuliana.

Another beautiful vista with the truncated spire of the church of San Dominico to the left center.

Piazza da Republica on the Corso Vanucci, on the walk from our hotel to the Palazzo dei Priori.

This is the Palazzo dei Priori on the Piazza IV Novembre. The beautiful fountain (Fontana Maggiore) was covered with a dome and is under restoration.

The National Gallery of Umbria is housed in the Palazzo dei Priori. It houses many fine examples of religious art.

This is the recently restored Polyptych of Sant'Antonio (1459-1468) by Piero della Francesca. It is one of the highlights of the National Gallery.

When Papal armies subdued Perugia in the Renaissance, the Medieval city was covered over by new fortifications and a Papal Palace. Today these underground

Medieval streets are accessible by escalator. Another entry to this part of Perugia is the Porta Marzia (above). It is a remnant of the Roman city and dates from the 2nd century AD.

The Mueso Archelolgico in Perugia has a large and important collection. It has a vast Etruscan collection. Above is an Etruscan funerary urn from the tomb of Cutu.

We went to a Medieval dinner at Bevagna. This was preceded by Medieval entertainment at the Piazza Silvestri.

Medieval style entertainment at the Medieval dinner.

Some friends in Medieval garb at the dinner.

This is the cleanup crew at one of the restaurants where we had lunch. The pigeons were quite an attraction.

But the most amazing thing about Perugia were the vistas. Here is a portion of the old city wall.

Another view to the East.

This is the typical look of the province of Umbria.
