We left Tulsa on Friday, and didn't get to Rome until Saturday afternoon August 22. The photo above is the Street (alley) just outside our Hotel. The Raphael is a beautiful 4-star hotel. The lobby and dining room are tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of antiques and paintings.

A short distance from our hotel was the Piazza Navonna (above). It is a beautful oblong plaza built on the site of the circus of the Emperor Domitian. There always seemed to be quite a bit of activity here. |
The Church of "Sant'. Agnese in Agone" designed by Boromini, dominates the central sector of the Piazza Navonna. The central fountain (above) us called "Fontana dei Fiume" or Fountain of the Rivers. It was designed by Bernini for Pope Innocent X.

The Pantheon.
Originally it was a temple dedicated to all the gods built by Agrippa in 27 BC. In 80 AD it was damaged by a fire and restored by Domitian. In 117-38 AD the emperor Hadrian rebuilt it as we see it today.

In the 4th century it, along with all other pagan places of worship, was closed. In 608, the Byzantine Emperor Phocas gave the building to Pope Boniface IV who converted it into a church, St. Mary ad martyres.
