THE POQUOSON TOASTMASTERS' WEBSITE
WELCOME TO OUR WEB SITE!
The Poquoson Toastmasters Club will be moving to the new club web site shortly. The new web site is being updated and is more current that this web site. I will keep this site up until I am able to transfer all the information from this site to the new site. If you click on any reference of the Poquoson Toastmasters Club, I will have the link set to the new web site.
The Poquoson Toastmasters Club is one of the five clubs in Area 12. Area 12 consists of:
The The Oyster Point Toastmasters, V.O.I.C.E.S. of Williamsburg, and The Poquoson Toastmasters Club are open or community clubs. This means that the club welcome all to visit and join. The remainder are company or closed clubs. You can visit, but membership is dependent on working at that location.
Area 12 is one of seven areas in the Eastern Division. For meeting times of the other clubs, drop an e-mail to Rudy Moralez or check with the District 66 web site.

SO WHAT IS "TOASTMASTERS"?
Glad you asked! Toastmasters International is a self-paced club providing tools that enable people to develop their communication skills. In Toastmasters, you learn by doing. You speak before a small group of peoplewho at firstyou do not know. However, in a short time, you will become more and more comfortable talking in front of the group. Once you can speak before your club, making the transfer to talking before groups that are new will become easier and easier. You learn in comfortable surroundings, not in a sterile classroom environment.
However, Toastmasters is not "Roastmasters." We do not train solely after dinner speakers. Other communication skills members improve are their presentation skillls, time management, evaluation skills, leadership skills, and self-confidence. For more information, check out Toastmasters International or the District 66 web sites. Click here to see a typical meeting schedule at Poquoson.
The main goal for the Poquoson Toastmasters Club is building the communication skills within our membership. Each year, Toastmasters international challenges us with ten goals ranging from educational to leadership to membership to administrative. The goal for this Toastmaster year is to increase membership by five; earn two Competent Toastmaster (CTM) Awards or a CTM and one Advanced Toastmaster (ATM) Award; complete a Competent Leader (CL) Award. So, how are we doing?
- Increase our 5 memberswe started the year with 12. We have not gained nor lost a member. So, we are still at 12 members, and we are looking to grow.
- Earn 2 Competent Toastmaster (CTM) Awards (the completion of a member's first ten speeches)We have one member at 9 speeches, one away from their CTM. We hope to have half of this goal completed in October 2005.
- Earn 1 Advanced Toastmaster (ATM) Awards (ATM requires another 10 speeches plus, possibly some other Club or District projects)We have three members working on the Advanced Toastmaster-Bronze awards.
- Earn 1 Leadership Programs (2 training programs plus serve as a Club or District Officer)All of the officers are striving to accomplish these goals by February 2006.
- Return to Charter Strength (20 members)We are at 15 members, and looking to add new members.
