Holy Soul in Purgatory
De Profundis (Psalm 131)

Out of the depths I have cried unto Thee, O Lord - Lord hear my voice!
Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
If Thou, O Lord, shalt mark our iniquities, O Lord, who can abide it?
For with Thee there is mercy, and by reason of Thy law I have waited for Thee, O Lord.
My soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From morning watch even unto night, let Israel hope in the Lord.
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plentiful redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them.

V. Let Us Pray

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy departed servants the full remission of all their sins, that through our pious supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. Thou who livest and reignest world without end.

R. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great:

In a private revelation, Our Lord told Saint Gertrude that the following prayer would free 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood Of Thy Divine Son, JESUS, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my own family. Amen."

(Approval and Recommendation (sqd.) M. Cardinal Pahiarca at Lisbon, Portugal, on March 4, 1936)

Offering of the Holy Wounds and Precious Blood of Jesus

In a private revelation, Our Lord told Sister Mary Martha Chambon: "When you offer My Holy Wounds for sinners, you must not forget to do so for the souls in Purgatory, as there are but few who think of their relief. The Holy Wounds are the treasure of treasures for the souls in Purgatory."

Eternal Father, I offer You the Holy Wounds of Your Son, and His Precious Blood, for the conversion of sinners and for the relief of the souls in Purgatory.

(Nihil obstat: John A. Schulien, Censor Librorum; Milwaukee, WI, 2 May 1956. Imprimatur: +Albertus G. Meyer, Archbishop of Milwaukee, 1 May 1956.)

Prayers to Christ Crucified for the Souls in Purgatory:
O Font overflowing with truth, how wearied Your countenance. O Wise Physician of human souls, how slient You remain. O Splendor of Eternal Light, how lifeless You are. O Sincere Affection how deformed Your one beautiful face has become. O Most High Divinity, in what poverty You show Yourself. O Love of my heart, how immense is Your Goodness. O Joy everlasting, O Love of my heart, how excessive must have been Your grief. My Dear Jesus, Who is one with the Father and Holy Spirit, being one and the same Divine Nature, have pity on all living creatures, and especially for the suffering souls in Purgatory.

We adore thee, Piteous Cross, adorned with the delicate members and Precious Blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We adore Thee, O God, nailed to the cross who bleed for love of us.

My Jesus, by the sorrows Thou didst suffer in Thine agony in the Garden, in Thy scourging and crowning with thorns, on the way to Calvary, in Thy Crucifixion and Death, have mercy on the souls in Purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken; do Thou deliver them from the terrible torments they endure; call them and admit them to Thy most sweet embrace in paradise. Amen.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the Departed
O gentlest Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the soul of thy departed servant (mention name here).

Be not severe in Thy judgment, but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames, and do Thou, O Merciful Savior, send Thy angels to conduct Thy departed servant to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen. Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Holy Souls

May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

More Prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory:

(From the Pieta Prayer Book)

In a private revelation, Our Lady asked that we pray very much for the poor souls; that we pray:

5 Credos (Apostles' Creed)
1 Hail Holy Queen
1 Our Father
1 Hail Mary
1 Glory Be
1 Requiem (see above)
Our Lady said that if we pray these prayers "we'll deliver so many souls, so many souls."

'Jesus, Mary, I love You, save souls.'

(Each time this simple aspiration is said, a soul is released from Purgatory.)
