To a party, my son I did take
And watch him smile and merry make
With his friends, lads from football..
Yet with me was only one footfall;
Amid the noisey Festive crowd
To myself, I spoke out aloud
Your name and wondered if you'd be
Here in this time, seated next to me.
If our paths had earlier crossed,
And neither of us became so lost;
Would you have sat 'pon that bale of hay
and Watched our son run and play?
Would you have been near by my side
holding my hand and together we'd abide
In simple silence as we did see
Happiness bathed in our tranquility?
I looked 'pon the sparkling glade;
Dew-doffed, rain clad, each fallen blade
Of grass trampled by gay, youthful feet;
Yet I look to my side...an empty seat.
Would you hae sat with me; my side so sweet?
For alone was I, ever incomplete;
But if you were here, tis together we'd be
Watching the world in our soft harmony...
Would you look into my eyes;
Speak muted tones; as the rainy skies
Did drip and drop upon my brow...
Would you console my heart somehow?
A seat I saved; the crowd grew dim
The river raced by; its majestic hymn
Played mightly as it's waters rushed...
But you were not here, my soul was hushed.
Tell me love; if you possibly know
To that wee party, with me would you go?
And hold my hand, and e'er make me smile?
While loving each other...all the while?
Tell me slowly, so I'll ever hear
The response you give, to ring in my ear
And reverberate in my heart with endless hope..
Would you take a hold of the offered rope?
"Yes, I'd sit with you upon that Bale"
Our love would shine through snow and hail
"I'd sit with you and hold you near
You are my strength, my dreams so dear"
"You are with me even when we're apart
In the seat with you...you held my heart"...
