Promises of Light
Lightening bolts dance in the skies
I watch them with my shrouded eyes
The thunder peals..and all I hear
Is "Trust me love, E'er I'll be near".
Bluish flashes turn black into white
Brightening briefly, and ebony night;
Just as the words you had spoken so clear
"I promise my love, I'll e'er be near."
When the sparkling, snapping, electricity stops,
With darkness recapturing the oaken treetops,
I'm Smothered again in indigo fear,
Your broken promises are all that I hear.
Words shot like arrows, unquivered and true
Pieced easily a heart not so shiny and new.
Rather, scarred and healed and broken once more
"I'll never leave you, Of that you be sure".
Storm's on the horizon, yet thunder's still heard,
Rumbling through blackness, like your broken word.
"I'll never leave, no never my dear"
"Trust me my love, I'll always be near."
Alone in my quiet, the storm did subside.
Gone with your promises, not here to reside.
The words are now cloaked and gloved in the night,
Yet forever I'll remember your promises of light.
