Honor

"Victory or defeat lies in God's hands.
Over honor, we ourselves are lord and master."

You can probably tell by the House motto above that honor is very important to us.

Honor and chivalry are the ideals that drew us to the SCA in the first place. While to some, the very concept of honor is outdated, we believe that honor is the true cornerstone of the Society.

It's easy to confuse honor with courtesy, but they are two entirely different yet entwined ideals. Courtesy is defined by Websters Dictionary as "general allowance despite facts: INDULGENCE". Honor is defined as "to live up to or fulfill the terms of (~a commitment)". Courtesy should always be extended if the option exists, but when courtesy and honor conflict as they sometimes do, we believe the honorable route should be chosen.
