<House Singing Stone - history

Household Motto

Victory or defeat lies in God's hands. Over honor, we ourselves are lord and master.

The main page was filling up with the numerous tales of recognitions and honorable deeds of House Singing Stone. Since memory of those things that are done lapse with the passge of time, rather than delete the recording of our history, it has been moved to this new area.

Pray read on, laugh and remember these glorious moments of our past.....

At Ice Dragon

*** No Ship one minute .... and then it hits the fan ***
A very kind and generous lady, Ysabel Graver was visited by TRM during one of their roving courts at this event and recognized as a member of the Order of the Millrind. The award included the Granting of her Arms: Argent, a fan sable, on a chief gules a compass star Or and privilage to use of the title "The Honorable Lady" or "Her Ladyship".
Congratulations Ysabel on your long overdue recognition ...
and welcome to the wonderful world of polling orders :-)

At Vetr Thing

*** A BRIGHT example of service ....***
... is how His Majesty referred to Mistress Aleea, just before welcoming her into the Order of the Millrind. For her years of dedicated service, we say "Thanks" and for her newest recognition we say "Vivat!"

*** SURPRISE ... just as you requested?? ***
It was no surprise to anyone at the event that THLady Karana was put on Vigil to contemplate elevation to the Order of the Pelican ... Well OK, Karana was surprised, but she had asked that if she were ever offered the accolade that she would like it to come out of the blue. That doesn't mean that her vigil or regalia was sparse. Many contributed to the day and made it special for her. Mistress Lenora even managed to make her a new set of garb without Karana's knowledge ... or measurements.

Mistress Karana was recognized as a Companion of the Pelican and welcomed into the Order on the list field .. where it was most appropriate. Speaking as Worthies were:

Sir Kadan - Chivalry

Mistress Aleea - Laurel

Viscount Syr Bear - Royal Peer

Viscountess Mistress Judith - Pelican

Vivat and well deserved, good Mistress :-)

At Summer's End, 2004

*** Fighters ... the next generation ***
The day's tourneys were not just for the aged
(you know - Kadan, Aengus, Rys... anyone else over age 18 :-P
The Youth of the Kingdom also enjoyed good sport. Both Duncan and Rouland donned their armor and had a good time.

During Court, Rouland was called forward and proclaimed the winner of the tourney for his division... and a while later, called a second time to receive word that had been sent from Their Majesties of the Midrealm. He was officially welcomed into the Order of the Baton (Midrealm youth combat award)

For Rouland and all of the fighters of the House.... Vivant!!!

At Pennsic 33 - AS 39 (2004)

*** No good (and tasty) deed goes unpunished ***
It was only a mater of time before folks realized that Her Ladyship Karana's cornucopia is overflowing with not only an abundance of food, but that she is skilled in making things that taste great as well. At court the Honorable Lady was welcomed into the Order of the Sycamore.
Vivat Karana ... and thank you for all of your culinary endeavors.

*** Picture perfect household unit ***
For those of you who missed the pictures of the field battle that were for sale on site, the household unit (Aengus, Yvianne, Rys and Aidan) looked great in at least 4 different views. It was truly an honor and pleasure fighting together ... and that no chirurgeons were involved this year was a bonus.
Vivant!!

*** Battlefield Laureling?? ***
On Monday of war week, following the field battles and heroic champions bridge battle, TRM Maynard and Christina called a short court. His Lordship Aengus, who had been fighting all day, was called forward and praised for his artistic talents. A slightly confused Aengus was sure he was being sent on Vigil but it wasn't until the Order of the .... chivalry :-) was called that he fully understood the reason for the battlefield court.

Still wearing her own armor, his lady and inspiration, Maitresse Yvianne took his arm and aided the Knights in escorting Aengus from the battlefield back to his camp. He heard counsel from the Peers throughout the remainder of the day and far into the night. When the last visitor was gone Aengus remained on Vigil alone until dawn.

At Tuesday evening's court Aengus was made a companion of the Order of the Chivalry and 25th Knight of AEthelmearc. Speaking as Worthies were:

Baroness Mistress Elizabeth - Laurel

Mistress Liadan - Pelican

Countess Caryl - Royal Peer

Count Sir Henri - Chivalry

Viscount Sir Master Haakon - Aengus' former Knight

Regalia was provided by:

Spurs

sent from Duchess Sir Rowan & attached by Duke Sir Morguhn

Belts

A beautliful dress belt was made by Earl Sir Yngvar & Countess Caryl
A belt more suitable for fighting was a gift to Aengus from Viscount Sir Haakon

Cloak

The claok was sewn by Mistress Aleea, although word has it that Lady Ysabell has had the fabric waiting for this occasion for years

Chains

Ancestral chain of AEthelmearc, lineage recited by Sir Graedwyn
from Sir Koredono a chain that had been worn previously by himself and Sir Haakon
Sir Kadan & Mistress Aleea provided a fighting chain

Although it's been said many times already - Vivat Sir Aengus!

Sir Aengus and Maitresse Yvianne would like to take this opportunity to thank all who helped make the Vigil and elevation a truly amazing celebration. Vivant for the members of House Singing Stone, Highrafters and Izenfoust. Without you it would have been an impossible undertaking. Extra special thanks to Haakon, Aine and Simon, Klaus and Mea ... who among other things, kept Yvianne sane and focused as well as providing ample excuses for her to be out of camp. Thank you all so much.

*** ... but wait, there's more ***
As we were almost ready to leave site -after all of the work was done ;-) Sir Aengus received a response from Lord Rys concerning his place in the household. Since Rys has been at Aengus' side through battle and merriment ... and some really embarassing moments ... it is only right and proper that he has agreed to be a Man at Arms to Sir Aengus. May they both enjoy their new relationship ... although I'm almost positive it is just a formalization of the old one that has existed for years.

At Something Medieval This Way Comes

*** Every 5 years or so ... ***
After many rounds of besting skilled and noble opponents, and rising through the winner's bracket, His Lordship Aengus emerged victorious from the tourney to choose BMDL's heavy weapons champion. Having been the Barony's Champion 5 years ago and bearer of the Shield of Chivalry twice in the intervening years Their Excellencies, Alonzio and Tatiana, are getting more than a mighty and honorable combatant to serve as Their Champion, but also a seasoned veteran at standing through court.
Vivat to Aengus on his most recent tourney win

At War Practice AS 39

*** We survived ***
I guess the thing we all are most grateful for this year is that despite the terrible storms nobody was hurt and nothing that can't be replaced was lost. The spirit and camaraderie that exists in AEthelmearc is amazing. A special thank you to Tyger's Guard for keeping young Rouland safe and sound under a picnic table in their encampment throughout the storm.
Vivant to all good gentles at the event who assisted friend or stranger in need.

*** Sure as Ship, he's been outed ***
During court Saturday evening His Lordship Jacopo was welcomed into the Order of the Millrind for his years of service to the archery community and to the Kingdom ... like he thought nobody would notice him always doing something helpful, he's a rather soft spoken man and a bit on the small side. (giggle) All joking aside, Jacopo does a good job of doing quiet service and his recognition is well deserved. This is Jacopo's second Grant bearing award which we believe makes him bi-shipsual ... but we don't discriminate. :-)
Vivat for His Lordship Jacopo!

*** Missed seeing you at War Practice ***
Someday the House will have to schedule a non event just to sit and visit with each other. It's not like we didn't actually "see" each other this weekend - all you had to do was look across the field to another list to see members of the House, mostly marshalling or doing MoL paperwork.
We are proud to have such gracious and giving friends ... Vivant for your prolific service .

At Spring Crown AS 39

*** All this way for a fight practice? ***
The small list of 16 entrants gathered in Port Oasis to determine who would be the Heirs to the Throne of AEthelmearc. Our household was represented by 2 couples:

  • Sir Kadan, fighting for Mistress Aleea
  • His Lordship Aengus, fighting for Maitresse Yvianne

The entire list tree from Crown is available to view the pairings. Much adjusting of the list was done to keep combatants from fighting against those they had met in previous bouts. Kadan and Aengus kept advancing and it was inevitable that the point would come when fate would intervene and they would fight each other. One round before the semi finals they met. Both fought valiantly to advance their ladies and themselves in the list. The victor of the bout, Aengus ... who went into the semi finals for the first time. Obviously he was not as fortunate in the final rounds of the tourney or you would no doubt have already heard a very different tale - one that begins with ... What have we gotten ourselves into this time? :-)

For Aengus and Kadan, and all who fight with honor .... VIVANT!!

*** Still chivalrous, but no longer "standing" ***
Kudos to His Lordship Aengus for fighting with chivalry and honor (as many commented) yet managing not to bring the Shield of Chivalry home. During Court this honor was passed on to THLord Duncan von Halstern who seemed pleased to bear the weight of the recognition. We'll have to see if he feels the same come Fall. Yvianne and the kids are happy to have Aengus sitting with them in Court instead of watching him stand behind the Royalty ... talking with his friends, drinking scotch and getting a close up view of the scrolls some of us wouldn't mind having.

For Aengus' service to the Ladies of the Rose and the Crown ... Vivat!

At the Coronation of Maynard & Christine

*** In fact and Principals ***
Authenticity is it's own reward, but HRM Henri has opened a new Order of Merit for Martial Authenticity (OMMA)to recognize those who make it possible to believe one has been transported back in time while still being an active participant in martial activities. Two noble members of the House have been named among the 4 principals of this new Order. Mistress Aleea by virtue of her efforts in Mongolian Archery and THLord Aengus for his attempt to bring the 14th century to the heavy weapons lists. We trust you both will offer counsel and assistance to the heralds so that a real name for the Order can be found before the OMMA-god thing sticks.
Vivant for both Aleea and Aengus ... may you act as an inspiration to all.

*** Who said kids shouldn't play with sticks? ***
Apparently His Lordship Aengus didn't have his hands full enough with training 3 children of his own, he has assumed a new role as the Chancellor of the Youth Martial Academy. Having seen the vigor and potential of some of AEthelmearc's youth combatants we know he has his hands full, but a fun and rewarding tenure awaits him.
We wish Aengus the best of luck in his new office.

*** News from the tourney field ***
Vivat to Rouland on his participation in the first ever division 1 youth tourney in AEthelmearc. A bright future awaits you.

We know Aengus is too old to compete in youth combat, but a fighter dressed in his (stinky according to the combatant) surcote was entered in the lists. What at first glance startled many turned out to be none other than Lady Kaithren fighting in borrowed armor. While not as skilled, nor thankfully as odiferous, she still had a good time in armor.

And if there's even a doubt in your mind why Aengus offered a "not so clean" surcote to his daughter - it was the only one he had and she WANTED something nice to cover up her sports armor. Aengus, still breathing hard from his effort and still in armor immediately left the muddy and rain drenched field ... after being bested by Duke Sir Morguhn in the finals of the tourney ... to watch his chlidren participate in the youth tourney. Thanks to all who helped pack up his gear on the field and to those carried his damp armor from the youth list to the van.
For all those who fought in the tourneys ... Vivant!

At BMDL's 30th Birthday celebration

***Any other suggestions Sir?***
Vivat to Sir Finn who relinquished his position as winner of his groups Round Robin and forced a fight off to settle the 3 way tie that resulted. After being told at The Bears event by a member of the Chivalry that he needed to win a Tourney, Aengus went ahead and bested the rest of the field and won the tournament. Now Yvianne and the kids are hoping the Chivalry will tell Aengus to take out the garbage and increase their allowances since he seems to be in a listening mood ;-)
Vivat to His Lordship on His Victory

***Ohhh, look at all the pretty colors!****
Those that know her know that Mistress Aleea's garb will never been refer to as dull. Their Excellencies spoke of being oft reminded of a box of multicolored wax sticks when they see her, and thus made her the first member of the Baronial Order of Wax. In keeping with Aleea traditions, her scroll was even done on flourescent orange paper using crayons in the illumination.
Vivat to Aleea for forever waxing colorful...

At The Bears

*** Hey Lady.....***
The only person surprised by Ciara receiving her Award of Arms appeared to be the good lady herself. The rest of us were pretty aware of her generous nature and willingness to serve her Shire, and knew it was only a matter of time before The Crown would get around to recognizing her.
Vivat to *LADY* Ciara

*** Swings a stick ... and helpful too ***
Lord Rys, tired from a day within the list, was still delighting in the fact that his mother was just blindsided with her AoA when his own name was called by the herald. A momentarily stunned Rys did make his way to kneel before the King to receive acclaim as the Shire's herald and a generally helpful person. For his many efforts, Rys was made a Companion of the Order of the Keystone.
Vivat ... on a job well done both within and outside the list

*** Black on black ***
No, it's not a new heraldic rule, it's just the description of THLady Morwenna's Keystone scroll. Apparently there has been sorcerery afoot and the words while known were not visible to the naked eye. :-) This does not diminish the fact that her many efforts to benefit her Shire and the Kingdom were recognized on two consecutive weeks so that she herself could hear from the King the value that is placed upon her service.
For Morwenna - the scribe and bleary eyed autocrat ... vivat!

*** A rose by any other name ...***
The Rose Royal tourney brought out a large number of the Household fighters and their consorts. Sir Kadan arrived just in time to have fun in the traditional bear pit tourney and a much improved Rys looked like he was having fun as well. His Lordship Aengus, by the grace of Sir Christopher Rawlins, was given a position in the final eight fighters. Most noteworthy is our pleasure at seeing Lord Aidan in his first tournament and Lady Cionaodh's debut as the gracious, yet concerned consort. We were honored to bear witness as Aidan declared his inspiration and thrilled when we saw him win a bout to advance his lady's good name and his own renown.
For Aidan, Rys, Aengus and Kadan ... and for those who inspire them ...vivant!!

*** Not just on the field, but in the kitchen ***
While fighting is by far a more visible activity, our House was also well represented in the kitchen at this event. Thank you Karana, Duncan and Rouland for working hard all day so we could sit down and enjoy good food and good company at feast.

At Sword & the Rose

*** New bling for the younger generation of the House ***
If you happen to see Duncan MacAngus around you may notice him sporting a different necklace than those he is accustomed to. He is now a Companion of the Silver Buccle and is proudly wearing a large silver buckle on a cord around his neck.
Vivat Duncan ... keep up the good work.

*** ... and then there were four... ***
The House was well represented in the tourney at this event. Sir Kadan met His Lordship Aengus in the semi-finals and Sir Kadan fought well in the finals. Mistress Aleea was not in attendance, but it should come as no surprise to her that Kadan proclaimed her as his inspiration before every bout.
Vivant to those who fight ... and those who inspire.

At Crown Tourney

*** Some things never change ***
As usual the House was well represented at Crown.

  • Viscount Syr Bear, fighting for Her Ladyship Karana
  • Sir Kadan, fighting for Mistress Aleea
  • His Lordship Aengus, fighting for Maitresse Yvianne

All of our combatant couples went at least to the 4th round, several went beyond.
Vivant!!!

*** the Honorable ... or is that Honored ... Lord Aengus ***
The Ladies of the Rose announced that, for the first time in the history of our Kingdom, two Bearers of the Shield of Chivalry were to be named. His Lordship Aengus MacBain and His Lordship, Khalek Shuurag Od will share the honor in recognition of the chivalry they displayed throughout the Tournament.

Vivant to both holders of the Shield of Chivalry

At Summers End

*** My, what a large chest... ***
Sadly the Rose Royal Tournament Series has ended. If you missed it, then you missed an awesome display of pageantry and feats of arms that transported those assembled back to the middle ages. The House was well represented throughout the tournaments. If you would like to read details about what happened, Maitresse Yvianne has kept a diary and posted her chronicles here .

At the fifth and final tourney many received gifts and tokens for their prowess and participaton. The most amazing prize, a large wooden chest covered in medieval fighting scenes was awarded to the victor of the series of 5 tournaments, His Lordship Aengus ... who couldn't believe he had won anything - he was just having fun. :-)

Vivat Aengus!!
Vivant House Singing Stone

At Pennsic XXXII

*** The SCARLET Guard ***
Mistress Aleea was just trying to perform her duties as a member of the Queen's Guard during AEthelmearc Court at Pennsic. It seemed no matter where she went to relieve a fellow guardsman, none would leave her alone at her post. Good thing too ... for it would have left he dias unguarded when she was called forward to receive due recognition as a Companion of the Scarlet Guard. It was a joy to view her face as she realized the honor she was about to be given.

Vivat Aleea ... and well deserved!!

*** Is that a meteor shower? ***
No, but the Comets (Baronial awards) were sure in abundance at Court in the Barony Marche of the Debatable Land encampment. Congratulations to both Cionaodh and Aidan on receiving public acknowledgement for all that they have done in service to the Barony.

Vivant !!

*** Let the bards begin ***
It is with great pride an joy that the Household recognizes the prowess and honor of Rouland of Willowbrooke within the youth lists at Pennsic. The young lad won his division at both the East Kingdom sponsored youth tournament (fighting for his Lady mother, Yvianne) and the Midrealm sponsored tourney (fighting in honor of Her Majesty of AEthelmearc, Maurya)More special than the acclaim he earned, Rouland made many friends from several kingdoms and can't wait until next Pennsic to see them again.

Vivat for Rouland, the second youngest member of the AEthelmarc Army.

At Crimson Shore

*** a new "baby" Buccle ***
Grinning from ear to ear, Rouland of Willowbrooke was happy to spend his day being the list runner for the Rose Royal Tournament. Still grinning from ear to ear, the young lad was inducted as the newest Companion of the Silver Buccle at Court Saturday evening.

Vivat Rouland ... and always remember it's the fun you have doing things that counts, not the recognition.

*** Aengus receives invitation to hit things with stick ***
The second Rose Royal Tournament was held at this event. The field was as small as the first, but just as full of quality fighters. Two noble combatants from the household entered the list.... Sir Kadan did show his prowess and chivalry to the delight of all, but at the end of the day it was His Lordship Aengus who was one of 5 fighters selected to receive invitation into the next tournament without having to win a spot in the open invitational tourney. One of the questions put to Aengus by the Gallery was to explain why his shield displays one device, while his surcote bears another. To paraphrase his much longer answer ... he hopes his actions bring honor and renown not just to himself, but to his House. Which is exactly what he accomplished :-)

Vivat to Aengus ... and kudos to all of the Household who took part in the Tournament.

*** I see nothing ... ***
Which was exactly as things should be - but rumor has it that one of our own was acting head retainer for TRM at this event and more members of the House offered their service to the Crown to help make things run smoothly. While we missed your company in the Gallery and at the side of the list, we were glad to see you even briefly. We have made note of your service to the Kingdom and whle we offer no recompense or recognition it makes our hearts glad to know that TRM were well taken care of that day.

At AEthelmearc Academy

*** Aengus smiling again ***
We thought THLord Aengus was smiling because hs duties as class coordinator for this Academy had ended ... but we should have known he was up to something. During Court Maitresse Yvianne was recognized as the third Fellow of the Academy for her constancy as a teacher and providing opportunities for others to learn, not just at the Academy sessions, but through the traveling scriptorium and in many other venues. The token of the recogntion is traditionaly a book. Yvianne's was a joint venture between Mistress Alison (MoAS), her apprentice Pleasance and the calligrapy and illumination were done by His Lordship Aengus... at scriptorum ... under the watchful, yet unknowing eye of Yvianne **giggle** :-P

For the efforts of both Aengus & Yvianne to further education of the populace ...
and for the recognition of the good Maitresse ...
Vivant !!!

At Sylvan Crusades

*** Touch not the cat... ***
Well that's how one period motto starts and Lord Aiden would have saved himself ample embarrassment if he had heeded those words. In a Thrown Weapons Championship entitled - Lions and tigers and bears, let fly - our noble Aiden (the red) found that it is impolite, nay, it is WRONG to split a tiger in half during a time when tigers guard the Throne of AEthelmearc. Despite his faux pas, and the minus points it earned him, His Majesty Christopher proclaimed Aidan as Kingdom Thrown Weapons Champion ... and gave him a little grief ... during court.

All kidding aside ... we couldn't be prouder of Aidan's fine accomplishment
VIVAT!!!!

*** What a tourney !!***
For those of you who missed the first Rose Royal Tournament, you missed a spectacular event. The day was soggy and miserable, but the tourney more than made up for it. It was a classic pas d'arms ... one that transported the spectator back to more more elloquent and regal times. THL Georg, THL Aengus and Sir Kadan all entered the small but skilled list. At the end of the day, of the three, it was Kadan who won a spot in future tournaments. His fighting was deadly accurate and the words he spoke in answer and address to the gallery were chivalrous and moving.

VIVAT for Sir Kadan on his victory ...
and vivant for all who participated or witnessed this awesome tournament.

At War Practice

*** No Ship ... ***
As we all knew it would happen sooner or later .... Aidan Gunn was Awarded Arms for his service as Steltonwald Thrown Weapons Marshall. Also during court Aidan's lady, Cionaedh Gunn was Awarded Arms for her service at demos as well as for her work in Steltonwald kitchens and at troll. Vivant to our newest Nobility .... Lady Cionaedh and Lord Aidan

*** Mongol joins Queen's Guard ***
The invitation and acceptance of Mistress Aleea to the Queen's Guard happened quietly after court. Her skill on the archery range at War Practice is legendary already ... I heard a tale of it at a bardic circle :-)

*** Mongol wins inter-Baronial Tournment***
Sir Kadan's victory in the Seven Pearls Tourney cannot go without report and acclaim. It was most touchng to watch as he turned towards the achery range and honored his Lady before evey bout.
That he showed great prowess was no surprise, for truly he was inspired.

*** Mongol takes Squire ***
Thank you Kadan, Aleea and Georg for allowing us the privilege of bearing witness to Havoc's squiring. Georg, I don't think I'll ever be able to erase from my memory the sight of you pouncing upon your new "baby brother" :-)

*** No Mongols ... just kids. Much more dangerous ***
Even the children were not to be outdone... For those who did not hear the news, Duncan won the children's quest, Rouland came in 4th.

*** Laurel meeting during the Melee?? ***
Maitresse Yvianne took to the field for her first experience fighting at an event. From the bright smile and giggles every time she came off of the field .. and the jumping up and down saying "Do it again, do it again" there was no doubt she was having a blast. The only time the smile dimmed for a moment was when she realized the shield wall on either side of her was comprised of other Laurels. After finding out that the location of the meeting had not been moved to the middle of the field, she returned to her regularly scheduled fun.

*** SASSy ladies?? ***
The Sylvan Army Support System made it's debut at War Practice. It was well received and the munchies and drink they provided on the field were very much appreciated. Vivant to those who made arrangements and provided the food - and to those who took time out of their event to take care of others ... THL Anna, Lady Bronwyn, Lady Kaithren, Catelin (Lenora's daughter) and last but not least, Allyssa (who was there throughout the day providing drinks and smiles for all)

Aengus and Yvianne would like to commend all of the members of the household for all of their efforts this weekend .... the marshals and MoL, those who competed, fought and the SASS ... and not to be forgotten those who bring to this household friendship and support in abundance :-)

Vivant!

At Celtic New Year

*** We're not full of ship yet, but we're getting there ***
Finally the Order of The White Horn got around to inducting Lady Anna. We all knew it was only a matter of time before she was recognized for her skill and service to thrown weapons.
Congratulations unto Her Ladyship Anna on her recognition

*** Tourney news - the thrill of victory, the agony of procrastination ***
If the House had done as well at Crown two weeks previous we'd have Heirs. Sir Kadan, THL Georg and THL Aengus all did extremely well and fought with great skill and enthusiasm. When all was said and done, it was His Lordship Aengus who won the day (fighting the final bout with greatsword and shield)YMMV as to whether the sword was great or just ambitious. :-)
Vivat Aengus on your tourney win!!!

*** Relax and enjoy court ***
During court, Maitresse Yvianne formally passed the office of Sylvan Signet on to her successor. While she is still saddened that she will no longer be able to serve the scribes and the kingdom in that capacity, she is thrilled with the opportunity to return to the list as Aengus' consort.
For Yvianne's service - vivat ... and for having her back - vivat, vivat!!

At Spring Crown Tournament - May AS 38 (2003)

In the presence of ladies and damsels, and many others, on the tenth day of May, and in the Barony of Blackstone Mountain the following members of the house did show great personal prowess, courage, valor, and chivalry and compete in a Tournament to decide the Heirs to the Throne of AEthelmearc.

  • Viscount Syr Bear, fighting for Her Ladyship Karana
  • Sir Kadan, fighting for Mistress Aleea
  • His Lordship Aengus, fighting for Maitresse Yvianne
  • His Lordship Georg, fighting for Her Ladyship Anna

Aristotle said that the greatest honor is found where the greatest difficulty is. Though none were victorious in their quest for the Crown, through their efforts and deeds the combatants brought honor to themselves, their ladies and our household.

Vivant!

At Blackstone Raids - April AS 37(2003)

*** Good news from the archery field ***
Vivat to Mistress Aleea on winning the archery competition run by Master Robert the Grey. She bested the field which included a couple of pretty fair archers from the Midrealm as well. OK, Jacopo said it first, but we all agree and hope it is only the beginning of a memorable season for Aleea.

For Aleea ... and all of the skilled archers of the House... Vivant!

At Ice Dragon - Spring AS 37(2003)

*** Recognition for our younger members ***

Congratulations to Allyssa on receiving her Silver Buccle (kingdom childrens' award). The token she received was the buckle off of His Majesty Rurik's spur that he received when he was Knighted. :-)

Duncan and Rouland were also recognized for their assistance during the day as list runners for the heavy weapons tournaments with tokens from the Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael.

Congratulations to Kaithren who authorized as a youth fighter (her first time in armor). It didn't take her long to realize she was hot, tired, sweaty... and having a lot of fun.
Queen by her own hand ??? Give her a few years and we'll see what happens

VIVANT for the youth of the house ... and keep up the good work.

*** ... and then he won the Pent... ***
After years of research and months of work Aengus finally put it all on the line and entered the A&S Pentathalon. It was a hurried morning as he registered and set up the displays of his projects ... He finished just in time to throw on his armor and enter the heavy weapons tourneys. :-)

At Baronial Court that evening - much to the delight of the household and the assembled populace Aengus was announced as the winner of 3 individual A&S categories and this year's Pentathalon champion.

Vivat Aengus!!!

At AEthelmearc Twelfth Night

*** Hey Lady ***
Much to the delight of her friends and family, Kaithren was called forward and Awarded Arms for her work with children, help in the kitchens of the Realm and great promise as a scribe. We're all proud of her and are glad she finally received well deserved recognition for her many years of activity and service.
Vivat Lady Kaithren Rowand .... and happy birthday :-)

Welcome to our new members

At a private get together between Christmas and Twelfth Night Cionaedh Gunn & Aidan Gunn were formally asked to join the household. Without pause they accepted :-)It is a pleasure to add two such noble and honorable people to the House....oh yeah, and fun too. Don't forget the fun part :-)
Vivant for House Singing Stone - and welcome Cionaedh & Aidan.

At Crown Tourney

*** We happy ... fleet??? ***
Long deserved recognition for Karana as she was welcomed into the Order of the Millrind. Her constant services have not been overlooked .. despite her attempts to cover them with courtesy and kindness.
Vivats unto The Honorable Lady Karana Yabokchi.

*** Hey Aengus, hold this... for a few months ***
Each Crown Tourney, the Ladies of the Rose select one fighter as a model of courtesy and chivalry on and off the field. His Lordship Aengus was chosen at Crown to be the bearer of the Shield of Chivalry so that all may recognize the honor the Ladies of the Rose chose to bestow upon him.
Vivat Aengus - well deserved!!

** As always, the Household was well represented at Crown**

Syr Bear the Wallsbane & Lady Karana Yabokchi

Banner Bearers - Squire Gunther & m'lady Angel

Sir Kadan Chakhilghan & Mistress Aleea Bagah

Heralded by THLady Giulietta de Venezia

His Lordship Aengus MacBain & Maitresse Yvianne de Castel d'Avignon

Heralded by Baron Master Fridrikr Tomasson av Knussling Ham
Banner Bearers - Lady Mea the Bold & Lord Klaus Isenfaust

His Lordship Georg Eisenfaust & Lady Anna Eisenkopf

Heralded (in German & English) by THLady Giulietta de Venezia
Banner Bearers - Lady Aillean ingen Prosinsias & Lady Coletta Briant

All of the fighters did well ... proving once again that honor, skill and glowing inspiration can take you quite far in a Crown list.

Many thanks to those who added to the atmosphere of Crown and provided services that allowed the members of the Household to surround themselves with comfort, splendor and good company. We are grateful to each and every member of the House for bringing their personal banners for display as well as Mistress Aleea for making the elegant tablecloth with the embroidered house badge and Maitresse Yvianne for the Household herald's tabbard. Special thanks to our heralds and banner bearers.

The report from this Crown would be complete if it did not mention Aengus & Yvianne's gratitude to all of the gentles who came to their rescue and helped them return safely to the hotel after feast...... Baron Daniel of Endless Hills, Mistress Orianna, Master Fridrikr, Lady Mea and Lord Klaus.
We would also like to thank the members of the House who patiently stayed with us at the Hotel until repairs were made so we could all make the return trip together.

FWIW - if you ever break down and have your shield handy, place it by your car to receive assistance... AAA can't respond in under 2 minutes - SCA did :-)

At War Practice - May, AS 37(2003)

**** Oh Ship ... another one ****
Much to the delight of the assembled populace, a long awaited recognition was given in Court. Lord Georg was elevated to the noble estate and title of His Lordship Georg Eisenfaust, Companion of the Gage, for his excellence in heavy weapons. The scroll is a wonderful use of heraldy, combining Their Majesties charges with the Dragon of House Stahlgeist and the Lion of Singing Stone, the token of the Order of the Gage and a yellow motto banner bearing a single Latin word "Cautio".... and Her Grace had absolutely nothing to do with it ;-)

Congratulations on a long overdue and well deserved recognition ... Vivat Georg.

*** We know who you are!! ***
After over 7 years of promises to change her name as soon as she found one she liked, Eibhlin formally began using the name she chose at White Hart ... Yvianne (pronounced ee-vee-AH-na) The rest of the name is still up in the air, but Maitresse Yvianne is a perfectly period name to use until something a little more SCAdian is decided upon. :-)

*** As if receiving a Cornelian wasn't enough....***
After Court His Lordship Jacopo requested all household members and guests in the encampment for a moment of time to bear witness to the passing on of the ancestral Cornelian of AEthelmearc. After reciting the lineage of those who have had the stone in their possession, starting with the Principle of the Order, the medalion passed from His Lordship to Maitresse Yvianne...to wear until it is passed to another.

*** Yvianne takes first apprentice / apprentice takes Yvianne ***
Standing in front of her pavilion Saturday morning, Yvianne formally asked Mea the Bold of Heartstone to become her apprentice. Despite warnings :-) from the house members present, Mea accepted. As a sign of respect for the good Mistress, Mea wore the belt that Eibhlin once wore as an apprentice. Later that day it was exchanged for a belt that has Yvianne's badge painted on it.

We wish them both the best of luck in their new relationship :-)

At Crown Tourney May AS 37(2002)

*** If the Sylvan Signet only knew ***
When Their Majesties, James & Elina wished to recognize Mistress Eibhlin with a Cornelian to commend her courtesy, they made an excellent choice in His Lordship Aengus to see to it that she was surprised. Not only was he able to keep the award a secret, but he also managed to get Eibhlin to help design the scroll and make the paints. Perhaps it is impolite to kill your champion, but calling him names can be considered high praise.... if you know the *right* names :-)

Sure, we know what a great person she is, now she has the award that allows all to know her courtesy at a glance.. Vivat Eibhlin... or is it Yvianne :-)

** As always, the Household was well represented at Crown**

Mistress Aleea championed by Sir Kadan
Lady Anna championed by Lord Georg
His Lordship Aengus and Mistress Eibhlin withdrew from the tourney shortly before it began ... due solely to an attack of reality brought about by Aengus' broken arm. We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on the field again as soon as he is able.

At Three Bears

***Tablero Champs****
For a second year in a row, Duncan was victorious in the Tablero tournament. Winning his age group decisively. Following on his heels as a Tablero champ (in the under 8 age group), is his brother Roland who spent over an hour in such a well matched game that eventually it was proclaimed a tie.

For our youngest Champs, Duncan & Roland... Vivant!!!

***True as a SCAdian rumor....****
We were concerned when we heard "Ysabell" and "stone" in the same sentence. We knew she would never ignore the household's zero tolerance to drugs policy and it didn't make sense that she would receive the death penalty for anything, since she is one of our better behaved members.(I've never seen her participating foot races near High Table during feast...) Much to our delight, but not surprise, Ysabell was inducted into the Order of the *Keystone* at this event.

On your well deserved recognition ...... Vivat,Ysabell :-)

At Ice Dragon

** Behold, Mistress Aleea ...... Ow, my eyes **
To the accompanyment of taiko drums, Her Ladyshiop Aleea processed into court to be recognized as a Companion of the Laurel. A vision to behold... in bright, vibrant... and authentic Mongol dress. Many in the procession and several members of the royal court did take the recommendation to wear sunglasses seriously.

Speaking on her behalf at the elevation were:
Royal Peer - Countess Baroness Genevieve du Vent Argent, OP,OL
Chivalry - Viscount Syr Bear the Wallsbane, KSCA
Pelican - Mistress Amaryllis Coleman, OP,OL
Laurel - Mistress Eibhlin ni Chaoimh, OL
One of the gifts given to Aleea was a Mongolian tippet, instead of a traditional cloak, that was completely hand embroidered and sewn by Mistress Eibhlin...
who is still cursing her sewing machine.
Vivat ..... Mistress Aleea :-)

At BMDL 12th Night - January AS 37(2002)

** No ship, we're getting another Peer **
Her Majesty, Alexandra, called forth Her Ladyship Aleea and sent her on Vigil for contemplation of elevation to the Order of the Laurel. :-)
Best wishes Aleea - and thanks to the many members of the household who worked so hard to make the Vigil happen.

** Recognition for house members of all ages **
Vivant to our younger members on receiving Comets.

Kaithern Rowand - Companion of the Comet Or (for service)
In recognition of her service in the kitchen, playing violin for court and efforts as a scribe

Duncan MacAengus - Companion of the Comet purpure (for children)
In recognition of his constant energy on the archery field and as a list runner

Roland of Willowbrook - Companion of the Comet purpure (for children)
In recognition of his efforts to help clean up the battlefield at Pennsic and not letting his age be a hinderance.

At Kingdom 12th Night

** Perhaps a change to the Italian Dictionary is in order **
Does the "di" in Jacopo di Nicollo really mean son of,
or is it an abbreviation for "did it"? :-)

It seems that every time we turn around Jacopo is excelling at another aspect of the Society. Having already been recognized by the Crowns of AEthelmearc for skill and knowledge of archery (twice) and for being an example of courtesy ... his Lordship is now a Companion of the Keystone in honor of his service to the Kingdom.

Vivat on your latest accomplishment ... Well deserved.

At Pennsic

At Saint Swithin's 3 Day event - July AS 36 (2001)

** Aleea, newest Lady of the Knight **
It was with great pride and immense joy that the household witnessed the Knighting of Sir Kadan. Speaking on his behalf at the elevation were:

Laurel - Viscountess Mistress Judith of Kirkland, OL
Pelican - Master Robert the Grey, OP
Royal Peer - Duchess Mistress Dorinda Courtinay, OP
Chivalry - Viscount Syr Bear the Wallsbane, KSCA

Among the prize possessions bestowed upon Kadan was a cloak sewn by his lady wife, THLady Aleea Bagah, The ancestral chain of AEthelmearc, and one spur from His Majesty Morguhn Sheridan and another from Duke Sir Inman & Syr Bear.
Vivat and well done - Sir Kadan :-)

At Central Region War Practice

**What is that noise? **
On a bright and sunny afternoon, His Lordship Kadan was removed from the listfield and brought to his yurt to sit vigil in contemplation of elevation to the Order of the Chivalry.
For anyone who hasn't caught on yet...Yes, he is a Mongol.
The throat singing outside the vigil was a dead giveaway :-)

Congratulations and best wishes Kadan

At The Hunt

** The household "No ship here we are" section dwindles **
Congratulations to Her Ladyship Morwenna for being inducted into the Order of the Fleur d'AEthelmearc for her skill in leatherworking. We tried to talk Morwenna into going to Central Region War Practice/Kadan's Vigil, but she kept using being autocrat of The Hunt as an excuse not to attend the other event. In light of such an honorable and noble excuse, she is exempted from "duck" jokes.
Vivat Morwenna ... Keep up the good work

At War Practice - May AS 36(2001)

WOW!!!

I hope you have some time, because this event was
rather exceptional for the Household :-)

***Ok, put the bow away and hold this axe for a bit***
After enjoying his twenty minutes of freedom, THLord Jacopo di Nicollo was installed as the newest Thrown Weapons Champion for the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands. Since he has just stepped down as Archery Champion, he should be familiar with what to do!
Well done Joc!
SIDE NOTE :This is the fourth consecutive year that a member of our Household
has been Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion.

***Yet another leaf on the Sycamore tree***
In a move that brought great joy to this Household (and her Lord Jacopo in particular), Their Majesties called forth Lady Ysabell Graver and added her to the numbers of the Order of the Sycamore for her varied skills including needlework, cooking and teaching.
BTW Ysabell, do you have a handkerchief for yourself yet?
VIVAT!!!

***But wait, there's more!!!***
Before he could finish congratulating his Lady in a right and proper manner, His Lordship Jacopo was called into the Royal Presence. They then inducted him into the Order of the Cornelian much to the joy of his lady, his Household and the assembled populace. Sometimes it does pay to be a nice guy!
Congratulations yet again your Lordship! VIVAT!

***It's a bird. No, a catapault projectile.
Great googly mooglies! It's a flying pig!***
THLady Eibhin ni Chaoimh was called before Their Sylvan Majesties to answer if she would accept elevation into the Noble Order of the Laurel. She was escorted to the Thrones by members of House High Rafters, members of the Shire of Sunderoak and House Singing Stone. Many were carrying works she had created (which is part of a period Masters' ceremony). Sir Malcolm spoke for the Chivalry, Viscount Sir Master Haakon spoke as a Royal Peer, Mistress Alicia spoke for the Pelicans, and Mistress Filipia, Master Brendan (via Mistress Filipia) and Mistress Katarina of the Middle Kingdom spoke for the Laurel. After hearing their words , Their Majesties asked for Eibbhlin's answer. After a tense moment or two of contemplation, she affirmed that she would accept elevation. Their Majesties then called for the regalia. The cloak was created by Lady Ysabell Graver with assistance from Lady Merald d'Avignon from Sunderoak. The circlet was a gift from Master Karl, and the medallion is the traditional Aethelmearc Sylvan Signet Office Laurel. Mistress Eibhlin then gave her Oath of Fealty to Morguhn and Meirwen. After her Oath, amid the acclaim of the assembled populace, she was presented to her new Order. Oh, and if you were wondering, yes that really was a flying pig appliqued to her underdress!
Congratulations MISTRESS Eibhlin!
VIVAT, VIVAT, VIVAT!!!!

***Are You Serious!?!***

To top off an already wonderful day, while at Creador and Anling's reception / Mistress Eibhlin's elevation party, Their Majesties did hold a very brief Court. Immediately after Creador and Anling had presented gifts to their wedding party, Their Majesties called Syr Bear before them. Meirwen proceded to ask him if there was a boon he would ask of them. When Sir Bear did not respond, She repeated the question. Syr Bear was only able to ask, "Are you serious?" at which point she repeated the question yet again. At this point, Syr Bear fell to one knee and begged Their majesties to elevate his squire Kadan Chakhilghan to the Order of the Chivalry. Their Majesties considered his request briefly before having Their herald call Kadan forth. A Writ of Summons commands him to appear at the Central AEthelmearc War Practice for his vigil and to present himslf before Them at the St. Swithins Bog Three Day event to answer if will accept elevation to the Order of the Chivalry.
We still can't figure out who was more surprised, Syr Bear or Kadan!
On his imminence's potential elevation, VIVAT, VIVAT, VIVAT!

***Daddy, can I keep him?***
While he arrived at the event a bit later than anticipated, our newest Household member was able to make the event. Jake Marshall Cavlovich brought both his sister and mother to War Practice. Judging from his expression most of the day, he seemed to enjoy his first event mightily! And no Kaithren, you can't keep him! Because I said so!

***Congatulations to the Newlyweds***
While not exactly a Household matter, it should be noted that Creador and Anling were wed Saturday afternoon during a beautiful ceremony. Anling looked georgeous and I almost did not recognize Creador he looked so good. The encampement was covered by three large pavillions, and the ceremony was a mix of traditional and oriental elements. We were honored to be asked to join them on their wedding day and further honored when asked if Eibhlin would join them and celebrate her elevation at their reception. If they show half as much generosity and kindness to each other as they did to us, the marriage will surely flourish!
We wish you both joy, good fortune and good health in your future together!
