Castle Gaillard was built in France by Richard I in the years 1196-98. It overlooks the Seine river on the edge of a 90 meter cliff. It was the best castle of the time. The whole castle was surrounded by a deep moat and consisted of two main parts : The main castle and the outer bailey.
