Employed at the Ministry of Trade and Industry 1969-1971.

Employed at the Department for International Relations of the Ministry of Education since 1971 in various positions mainly connected with co-operation between the Nordic countries. Desk officer also for bilateral exchange with Japan, Korea, North America, Australia and Oceania and matters related to cultural and educational contacts with expatriate Finns. Present post Senior Government Secretary.

Member of the Governing Board of the Nordic Saami Institute in Kautokeino, Norway 1972-1978, alternate member of the Board 1979-1990. Member of a state committee drafting measures for strengthening the Saami culture; report submitted to the Ministry of Education 1986.

Member of the Board of the Nordic Arts Centre 1978-1990 (now NIFCA Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art). Member of the Board of the Nordic Institute in �land 1993-2000.

Member of the Board of the Finnish Institute of Migration 1980-1987.

Member of the Finland United States Educational Trust Fund 1981-1993, Member of the Finland United States Educational Exchange Commission 1994-2001.
